OFFICER Q&A: Officer Scott Slagel
Q: What inspired you to become a police officer?
A: While doing general studies at Penn State, the degree of Administration of Justice interested me, and I advanced from there.
Q: What's your favorite thing about being an officer at NA/NASH?
A: The family atmosphere at NA and the teamwork at NASH.
Q: What was your favorite class/subject when you were in school?
A: History
Q: What school did you attend? Who was your favorite teacher?
A: Fox Chapel High School. Mr. Hodgin was my favorite; he was a no-nonsense kind of guy.
Q: Did you play a sport or participate in extracurricular activities while in school?
A: I played football until eighth grade, played street hockey with neighbors, and was on the rifle team for a while.
Q: What do you like to do for fun when you're not at work?
A: Outside of work, I like to spend time with my three boys and attend their hockey games
Q: Do you have any pets? If so, do they help you with your job?
A: We have a fish tank and two cats. They don't help me with anything.
Q: What's the most important thing you want kids to know about safety?
A: Traffic at and near the schools is one of my biggest concerns. Be patient and alert around vehicles. If you're a student that drives, be patient and alert. If you don't drive, please be alert at bus stops and parking lots.
Q: What's your favorite way to connect with students at NASH?
A: I really enjoyed being a guest speaker for social studies courses at NASH. It helped the students and I get to know each other.
