As required by Pennsylvania Act 44 of 2018, North Allegheny School District will participate in the Safe2Say Something Anonymous Reporting System beginning Monday, January 14, 2019. Safe2Say Something is a school safety tool for students, staff, and communities to anonymously report unsafe, potentially harmful, dangerous, violent, or criminal activities in a school entity or the threat of activities in a school entity.

Through Safe2Say Something (S2SS), students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members will be able to submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Something system in one of three ways:

• A mobile app, which is available for download on Apple and Android devices for free
• The Safe2Say Something website, safe2saypa.org
• A 24/7 phone line, 1-844-SAF2SAY (1-844-723-2729)

Once the report is made, the following steps will take place:

• The crisis center, staffed by the Office of the Attorney General, will review, assess, and process all submissions.
• The crisis center will send all submissions to a team of North Allegheny administrators and/or law enforcement officials for intervention.
• If needed, the crisis center may contact the tipster anonymously through the app.

Safe2Say Something is a national program that was developed by the Sandy Hook Promise. It was designed to teach youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves and to others, and to “say something” before it’s too late. North Allegheny also has an established TIPSLine for students, parents, and community members to utilize for anonymous tips pertaining to safety and security. Though the TIPSLine has been in place for several years, S2SS is an additional resource for North Allegheny to implement into its comprehensive safety and security plan.

All North Allegheny middle and high school students, along with staff members District-wide, will be trained on the program to recognize warning signs and signals, and how to use the system to submit a tip. The District is currently waiting to hear back from Safe2Say organizers regarding when the training will occur, which is coordinated through the Sandy Hook Promise.

The District strongly encourages students to report information to a trusted adult, and continue to utilize 9-1-1 in a true emergency situation.

Who at NA is already trained on Safe2Say?

NA has a core safety management team trained on Safe2Say Something and is prepared to respond to any reports that come through the system. The core team consists of the Director of Operations, the Chief of School Police, Safety, & Security/School Safety Coordinator, and the School Police Officers stationed at NAI and NASH. The District has also met with its law enforcement partners to discuss the S2SS program.
