The Philosophy of the North Allegheny Health Services Department is to work within the regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing to meet the school health mandates outlined by the State of Pennsylvania to support a level of wellness ensuring students have the opportunity to achieve maximum benefit from their educational experience. Through education, prevention, and early intervention the Health Services Department works collaboratively with school, community, and families to foster the student's ability to become a healthy, productive adult.
School nurses support learning by:
Assessing & treating illness and injury
Providing health screenings (mandated by the PA Department of Health) and as requested by parent/guardian
Hearing screening—K,1,2,3,7,11
Height, weight, & vision screening—every grade every year
Scoliosis screening—6,7
Providing support for children with chronic health problems
Monitoring immunizations
Providing health education programs for students & staff
