OFFICER Q&A: Officer Daniel Opsatnik

Q: What inspired you to become a police officer?
A: I got into law enforcement because I liked the idea that no two days were alike, and I wouldn't be sitting in an office eight hours a day.

Q: What's your favorite thing about being an officer at NA/MES?
A: My favorite thing about being an officer at MES is the students, teachers, and administrators.  They are a great group, and we work well together.  When you enjoy the people you're working with, it makes the job enjoyable.

Q: What was your favorite class/subject when you were in school?
A: My favorite class in school was English, because I was terrible at math.

Q: What school did you attend? Who was your favorite teacher?
A: I went to Quigley High School, and my favorite teacher was Mr. McClain.

Q: What was your favorite food to eat at school lunch?
A: I packed lunch every day except for Friday, when we had pizza.

Q: Did you participate in any sports or extracurricular activities while in school?
A: I played football for three years and baseball for one year in high school.

Q: What do you like to do for fun when you're not at work?
A: I try to stay in shape by walking and getting to the gym. I go to concerts, sprint car races, and spend time with my family.

Q: Do you have any pets? Have you worked with a K-9 officer before?
A: I currently don't have any pets, but I enjoy my daughter’s and son's dogs.  I have worked with K-9 officers numerous times during my career, and they’re incredible dogs.

Q: What's the most important thing you want kids to know about safety?
A: Acting unsafely can have catastrophic results on your life or the lives of your friends or family.

Q: What's your favorite way to connect with students at MES?
A: My favorite way to connect with students at MES is to engage in small talk with them about how their day is going, or things they are involved in outside of school.
