OFFICER Q&A: Officer Steve Liston

The North Allegheny Communications Department will feature each of the NAPD's officers who patrol the district's schools during the 2024–25 school year. This Q&A session is with Officer Steve Liston, who patrols the campus of North Allegheny Intermediate High School. Enjoy!
 
Q: What inspired you to become a police officer?
 
A: I had a very good friend growing up whose father was a State Trooper, and I always looked up to him.
 
Q: What's your favorite thing about being an officer at NAI?
 
A: I have enjoyed getting to know the staff and students and building friendships.
 
Q: What was your favorite class/subject when you were in school?
 
A: I enjoyed math and the sciences.
 
Q: What school did you attend? (Favorite Teacher?)
 
A: I attended Ford City High School (now known as Armstrong High School). I had many great teachers, but I must say Mr. Gallagher (Biology) stood out.
 
Q: What was your favorite food to eat at school lunch?
 
A: Shepherd's pie. The pepperoni rolls at NAI.
 
Q: Did you play a sport or participate in extracurricular activities while in school?
 
A: I played football and track.
 
Q: What do you like to do for fun when you're not at work?
 
A: I enjoy getting to the gym, and spending time with my friends and family.
 
Q: Do you have any pets? Have you worked with a K-9 officer before?
 
A: I have a 5lb pup named "Cooper." He's the best! I was not a K-9 officer.
 
Q: What's the most important thing you want students to know about safety?
 
A: School safety is a team effort. "See Something... Say Something"
 
Q: What's your favorite way to connect with students at NAI?
 
A: I usually attend every lunch and walk the halls several times throughout the day.
