SUMMER TIPS FOR DISTRICT-ISSUED IPADS
- Consider how you would like your student to use the District-issued iPad over the summer. You may wish to have your student use the device in its case for learning activities, or you may choose to power off and secure the device, case, and charger in your home for safekeeping until the start of school.
- Over the summer, the Internet will still be filtered on the District iPad.
- Summer is a good time to manage your student's usernames and passwords. Talk with your student about strategies to remember District usernames and passwords, which may include the following: TigerID, NA email, iPad passcode, and Managed Apple ID (if provided). Your student's iPad will not respond to the fingerprint Touch ID if more than 48 hours have passed since last used; therefore, your student's 4- or 6-digit iPad passcode will be needed to unlock the device. As a reminder, personal accounts for Google, email, and Apple ID should not be used on a District-issued device.
- Should you encounter any technical difficulties over the summer, our Technology Services Department is ready to help you. Service tickets can be submitted by sending an email to servicedesk@northallegheny.org
Technical support may be needed if the iPad is damaged, if it cannot connect to WiFi, or if applications are not functioning. If you feel you need in-person support/service from the Technology Department, please schedule an appointment through the Service Desk. Technology Services is not able to provide walk-in services. - Please be aware that the District is not able to track an iPad outside of the NA school buildings. If the iPad is lost or stolen, report it to the Technology Services Department as soon as possible so it can be addressed prior to the start of school.
- If your student is withdrawing from North Allegheny over the summer, please contact your student's school to begin the withdrawal process and to return the iPad and case.
- Your student should bring the fully charged iPad in its case on the first day of school. This includes students who will be moving up to Middle School.
- If the iPad is powered on and connected to WiFi over the summer, then apps will automatically update. If Apple releases iPadOS updates, they may be installed.
