• SUMMER TIPS FOR DISTRICT-ISSUED LAPTOPS

    • District technology policies and guidelines remain in effect during the summer, including not installing personal software on the district laptop. Students may install software available from the "Company Portal" or the Adobe Creative Suite on their district laptop.
    • Summer is a good time to manage your student's usernames and passwords. Talk with your student about strategies to remember usernames and passwords including their TigerID.
    • Should you encounter any technical difficulties over the summer, our Technology Services Department is ready to help you. Service tickets can be submitted by sending an email to servicedesk@northallegheny.org or you may want to review some common troubleshooting tips. Technical support may be needed if the laptop is damaged, if it cannot connect to WiFi, or if applications are not functioning. If you feel you need in-person support from the Technology Department, please schedule an appointment through the Service Desk. Technology Services is not able to provide walk-in services.
    • Please be aware that the District is not able to track a laptop outside of the NA school buildings. If the laptop is lost or stolen, report it to the Technology Services Department as soon as possible so it can be addressed prior to the start of school.
    • If you are not using the laptop for the summer, please follow this best practice for storing your computer over the summer:
      • Fully charge your laptop and then power it off by using the Power -> Shutdown option from the Windows menu.
      • Once a month, plug your laptop in, power it on, let it charge again, let it sit for at least 10 minutes to receive any updates, and then power it back off  (using the shutdown option from the power menu).
    • Do a check on the laptop in the weeks before school starts to verify that the laptop will power on, the battery is charging, the software is up to date, they can log in successfully, and they can access the internet.
    • Your student should bring the fully charged laptop to school on the first day of school next school year.
