  • HEALING OUR PERSPECTIVES ON MENTAL HEALTH (HOPE) SCIENCE FAIR

Posted by NASD Communications on 3/18/2025

North Allegheny Intermediate High School and the NA HOPE Club successfully hosted their first Healing Our Perspectives on Mental Health (HOPE) Science Fair on Saturday.

The outstanding NA student team of Sai Kunchakuri, Isabella Glinoga, Leah Campbell, Alicia Gasana, Khyronessa Avotri, Vijetha Gogineni, and Hansini Pellakuru worked tirelessly to bring this event to life. They created a space for students to explore the relationship between mental and physical well-being through research and presentations.

"With over 30 middle school students presenting research and a keynote from Dr. Ana Radovic, HOPESF fostered meaningful dialogue and innovation in mental health," said NAI Assistant Principal and club sponsor Dr. John Morey. "It was a remarkable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding and contribute to an essential conversation about well-being."

The HOPE Science Fair was the second of two events last week for the North Allegheny HOPE Club. This inspiring group of students also took part in The Mind Matters Conference at Pine-Richland High School, a mental health seminar hosted by the Pine-Richland Peer2Peer Club.

"We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication to mental health awareness and education, said Morey. "Their participation in The Mind Matters Conference at Pine-Richland and the inaugural HOPE Science Fair showcased their commitment to learning, sharing, and inspiring others."

The NA HOPE Club extends its gratitude to Dr. Morey and everyone who participated and supported this initiative. Together, we are prioritizing mental health!

  • NA ROBOTICS CLUB WINS 1st PLACE AT PLUM BATTLES COMPETITION

Posted by NASD Communications on 3/4/2025

On Friday, February 28, the North Allegheny Robotics Club attended the inaugural Plum Battles robotics competition hosted by Plum High School and Brutus Robotics. This annual event challenges students to design and build 3-pound combat robots from scratch and put them to the test in battle.

North Allegheny’s own Max Kant Zajac and his robot, Fracture, took home the first-place title after an intense series of matches. Fracture fought through six rounds, finishing with an impressive 5-1 record. The final match was so closely contested that it came down to a judge’s decision—after careful deliberation, Fracture was crowned the champion.

Max has been refining Fracture’s design for the past year and a half, making this his first official competition with the robot.

North Allegheny entered three robots in the competition, all of which have been invited back for next year’s event. The team is already looking forward to improving their designs and returning to battle even stronger.
