PARTICIPATION FEES
The North Allegheny School District has a participation fee structure for certain extra-curricular activities, such as interscholastic athletics, marching band, intramurals, and various select ensembles or clubs. The implementation of such strategies—such as a participation fee for extracurricular activities - is necessary to offset costs and help continue the depth and breadth of such programs.
There are three participation fee categories.
- Interscholastic Athletics—$75 per season per athlete with a student and/ or family cap of $225
- Marching Band—$50 per season per marching band participant with a family cap of $150
- Other—$25 per activity per participant with a student and/or family cap of $75 (e.g., intramurals, club sports, select ensembles, and select competition groups)
The maximum amount that any family will pay is $450, or the sum of the family caps in each category ($225 + $150 + $75 = $450). A provision for economically disadvantaged students is included in this plan. After your student becomes a member of the team or group, the following letter will be distributed by the coach or sponsor:
- PDF Participation Fee Parent Letter—Athletics
- PDF Participation Fee Parent Letter and Form—Non-Athletics
Please direct any questions to the Athletic Office for Interscholastic Athletics or the main office where your child is enrolled as a student for other activities. The School Board passed Board Policy #242—Extracurricular Activities, which includes participation fees as a result of the significant and increasing financial challenges facing NA and most public school districts.
AFFIRMING VALUE-MAINTAINING CHOICE
The North Allegheny School District believes that a broad range of curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs contributes in a positive way to the overall development of children. However, the implementation of new strategies—such as a participation fee for extra-curricular activities—is necessary to offset costs and help continue the depth and breadth of programs. The logic underlying a participation fee is that the costs for these programs will be partially absorbed by the students and families receiving those direct services. A provision for economically disadvantaged students will be implemented in this plan.
