Welcome to PES library, bookworms! Mrs. Sterling (Librarian) and Mrs. Jagus (Library Secretary) are so happy you are here. Our lovely library provides students and staff access to materials in a variety of genres and subjects to enrich their love of reading and learning. In addition to print books, we have ebooks that students can access using Sora or our online catalog, Destiny Discover. Both of these resources can be accessed through TigerID. Students and staff can use their Destiny account to checkout ebooks while at home or at school - both during the school year and throughout the summer. In Destiny Discover, they can also view their current checkouts, checkout history, place books on hold, and create a list of favorite books.
A variety of subscription databases, such as PebbleGo, TrueFlix, World Book, CultureGrams, and ACCESS PA/Power Library, among others, are accessible via the library website from home or school. The library catalog, Destiny, is also accessible via the library website and TigerID. These digital resources are available on student devices and may be accessed on other devices by using the PES-specific passwords found in the Library Blackboard classrooms under Class Information.
Students attend weekly library classes taught by the librarian, Mrs. Sterling. Classes in first through fifth grades receive a report card grade at the end of each semester. Book exchanges, story times, the Celebration Book Club, March Book Madness (grades 3-5), Mock Caldecott program (grades K-5), the Summer Reading Program, author visits, Book Fairs, research projects, and other reading activities support the development of literacy. Additional collaborative library/information technology lessons delivered in conjunction with classroom teachers are encouraged whenever possible, because of the wide applicability of information and technology skills to all areas of study. Technology is integrated into each library class, and students visit the Library regularly for iPad troubleshooting assistance.
The PES Library is a place to enjoy the stories we love, discover new ones, learn about the world around us, and ask questions. Unleash your imagination and learn about any topic that sparks your curiosity and brings joy to your heart!
