Service Dogs at FES

I hope you are off to a great start to the new school year.  This promises to be an exciting year at Franklin, and we are honored to partner with our families to ensure all students enjoy a safe, positive, and memorable school year. As we kick the school year off, I wanted to share with families that again this school year we will have two (2) service dogs (Ollie and Una) working in Franklin.

These service dogs are trained companions who provide personal assistance to their assigned students.  Both Ollie (a 100% hypo-allergenic Labradoodle) and Una (an English Crème Retriever) have completed a rigorous training program starting at eight weeks old with Autism Service Dogs of America (ASDA).  When Ollie and Una are at school, they are “working.”  As such, only their companion students and the person assisting those students may touch the dogs.  Remember, Ollie and Una are not school pets; rather they are certified working dogs while at our school.

We have been provided with immunization records as well as flea/tick documentation.  I recognize that there may be concerns with canine-related allergies; please know that service dogs have grooming standards that alleviate their dander and students should not come in contact with their saliva at any time.  Nonetheless, if your child has an allergy and/or is fearful of dogs, please share that information with school staff.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at or (412) 366-9663.
