Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! It has been a busy summer preparing for the very best possible start to the school year. Hiring new staff, welcoming new families, preparing new schedules and new programs take a lot of time, effort, and work but the staff of BWE is eager to see all of our planning and preparation unfold to offer your child a unique, comprehensive, and individualized experience!
As our enrollment increases, we welcome new sections to our elementary school! Last year we had four sections of first and second grade, and this year we will introduce a fourth section to third and fifth grade. In addition to our increased enrollment, we have some other exciting changes in BWE this year. This school year marks the final year of the Focus 2020 Initiative that was adopted by the North Allegheny School District in 2015. All of our students, grades one through five, will be issued their own iPad to assist in transforming the learning process. This is truly an exciting time for our students!
Another notable difference this school year will be the unveiling of the MTSS program at BWE. Last year, as you may know, we began the process by simply administering a universal screener, known as AimsWeb Plus, to our students in the areas of Math and English Language Arts. This year, each grade level will have a scheduled “What I Need” (WIN) period in their day where they will receive instruction tailored to their specific need, whether that be remediation or enrichment, as noted through the Universal Screener and other pieces of data.
Bradford Woods Elementary is an extremely special place. As we embark on yet another year together, I know that you will agree, too, that there is no better place to send your child to learn and grow!
As always, if I can ever be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
