- Supplemental insurance may be purchased through North Allegheny, PSERS, or other providers available in the market.**

- May be continued in the North Allegheny group plan
*Benefit eligibility is subject to employee group offerings. Otherwise, COBRA may be offered.
**If supplemental insurance is purchased outside of North Allegheny or PSERS plans, you will not be eligible for Premium Assistance

Premium Assistance
The Public School Employee's Retirement System (PSERS) provides a Premium Assistance benefit to help retirees pay for their basic health insurance coverage. An eligible retiree may receive Premium Assistance of up to $100.00 per month added to their monthly retirement benefit.
The eligibility requirements for Premium Assistance are:
One of the following Service/disability requirements:
At least 24 ½ years of service
At least 15 years of service, provided termination or employment and retirement was on or after age 62
Or
Receiving a disability retirement benefit from PSERS
And an out-of-pocket premium expense for basic health insurance from:
A Commonwealth of Pennsylvania school employer's group health insurance plan providing hospital, medical and major medical coverage
Or
PSERS Health Options Program
Premium Assistance is not payable for premium expenses for optional dental, vision or prescription drug plans or for premium expenses to cover your spouse or dependents.
Cost of Retiree Benefits
The cost of your benefits changes each year when renewals are completed. Contact your Benefits Manager to request information on the cost of the retiree benefits.
Payment for Benefits
Retirees are billed by the North Allegheny School District. Payments are taken through automatic withdrawal from an established checking or savings account each month. Retirees 65 and older who are enrolled in the supplemental health plan through North Allegheny are billed by the provider.
