REGISTRATION IN NASD
English Language Development Program
Essential Information for Newly Enrolled Students and Families
When enrolling new students in the North Allegheny School District (NASD), the District identifies students who should be screened to determine whether they qualify to receive English Language Development (ELD) services.
If your child is screened for ELD services:
An NASD English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher will contact you to discuss the screening process and schedule a date and time for your child’s screening.
If your child does not need screening for ELD services:
NO ADDITIONAL STEPS.

After screening, if your child qualifies for ELD services:
An ESL teacher will contact you to discuss the results and next steps.
Students may be reassigned to another NASD school while receiving ELD services. Program locations provide students with direct instruction from an ESL teacher.
*Transportation to/from ELD program sites is provided by the district
NASD ELD Program Locations:
• Franklin Elementary School—For elementary students receiving ELD services at Franklin.
• Marshall Elementary School—For elementary students at Marshall and Bradford Woods receiving ELD services.
• McKnight Elementary School—For elementary students at McKnight, Peebles, Hosack, and Ingomar receiving ELD services.
• Marshall Middle School—For middle school students at Marshall, Carson, and Ingomar receiving ELD services.
• North Allegheny Intermediate School—For intermediate and high school students at North Allegheny receiving ELD services.
After screening, if your child does not qualify for ELD services:
An ESL teacher will notify you. NO ADDITIONAL STEPS.

TRANSPORTATION:
For students reassigned to an ELD program site, round-trip transportation is provided by the district. For questions or concerns, submit a bus request at: bushelp.northallegheny.org/support/home
*High school students (North Allegheny Senior High School, NASH) are transferred between NASH and North Allegheny Intermediate School (NAI) during the day for ELD classes.
If your child received ELD services at a previous school:
ESL teachers will review your child’s most recent English proficiency scores to determine whether he/she should continue receiving ELD services.
If the scores indicate continued need AND require a change of program location:
An ESL teacher will contact you to discuss the next steps.
If the scores indicate continued need but no location change:
NO ADDITIONAL STEPS.
