Overview of Special Education Services

    Special Education Services
The North Allegheny School District offers a full continuum of services for students with disabilities designed to meet the needs of all students.  Students attend classes in each of the twelve buildings in the district as determined by student need.

Curriculum:  The North Allegheny curriculum will be on a sequential continuum that facilitates the transition from basic skills acquisition to skill application and to higher level thinking.

Instruction:  Teachers utilize modifications and adaptations to ensure effective instruction for all students that address the wide range of student learning styles and individual needs.

Intervention:  A collaborative effort to provide the child with the least restrictive environment from kindergarten through graduation.  This will be a comprehensive effort, involving all the people familiar with the child including parents, regular and special educator, counselors, administrators, outside consultants, and the student, when appropriate.

    These services include:
    • Learning Support
    • Emotional Support
    • Life Skills Support
    • Autistic Support
    • Deaf & Hard of Hearing Support
    • Speech & Language Support
    • Vision Support

    • Social Work Services

Opportunities are available for students with moderate to severe disabilities to participate in the regular education environment to the maximum extent possible as determined by the IEP team.  Special Education paraeducators provide support in all school environments as determined by the IEP team.
