North Allegheny School District Names Dr. Joseph Sciullo Next Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education
The North Allegheny School District has appointed Dr. Joseph Sciullo as its next Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education effective July 1, 2021. The Board of School Directors voted to approve Dr. Sciullo’s appointment at the March 24, 2021, School Board meeting. Dr. Sciullo joined the North Allegheny School District in 2018 as the Director of Student Services.
“I’m extremely honored and excited for my new role within the District,” Dr. Sciullo said. “We have a tremendous opportunity to lead North Allegheny with a student focus while addressing what is important to their lives today. My background and experience will allow me to guide our talented secondary teachers and administrators in addressing issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion, social and emotional wellness, and maintain the academic excellence North Allegheny is known for.”
Dr. Sciullo will fill a vacancy left after North Allegheny School District appointed Dr. Melissa Friez the next Superintendent effective July 1, 2021. Acting Superintendent Dr. Patrick O’Toole will remain with the District through June 30, 2021.
“Dr. Sciullo is a proven leader with a range of experience about students, teaching, and learning. He is the right person to lead North Allegheny’s secondary schools. ,” said Dr. O’Toole. “Dr. Sciullo joined the District in 2018 and is uniquely positioned to make an immediate impact in preparing NA students for success now and in the next chapter of their lives.”
Dr. Sciullo has a robust career in education. Before joining North Allegheny as Director of Student Services in 2018, Dr. Sciullo served in the same position for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit and spent time as the Director of Special Education at the Riverview Intermediate Unit. Dr. Sciullo began his career at Chesapeake Public Schools in Virginia where he spent a decade as a Special Education teacher, Supervisor, and Assistant Principal.
“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Dr. Sciullo for a number of years and I’ve been very impressed with his dedication to both our staff and students,” said Andrew Chomos, president of North Allegheny Board of School Directors. “We are very fortunate to have someone with Dr. Sciullo’s experience and familiarity with our District step into this important role. I’m confident Dr. Sciullo will continue to ensure our students have a positive and supportive learning environment while at North Allegheny.”
Dr. Sciullo received his Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Teaching from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Old Dominion University, Supervisor of Special Education Certification from Penn State University, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Educational Leadership and Administration from Old Dominion, and obtained his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from the California University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sciullo grew up in the Pittsburgh region and currently resides in Cranberry Township.
The District will immediately begin the search process to replace Dr. Sciullo as Director of Student Services.
