NASD School Year to End on Friday, June 5 for All Students
The North Allegheny Board of School Directors voted at their Regular Meeting on Wednesday, May 20, to end the 2019-2020 school year and remote learning for all students on Friday, June 5. This early end date allows the District to use the week of June 8 to provide professional learning opportunities for staff members and coordinate the collection/return of student materials. Details about the collection/return of student materials will be sent in the coming weeks. This plan allows us to efficiently close out the current school year and effectively plan and prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.
We have been operating in a remote learning environment since March 16. Due to FOCUS 2020 and the fact that all students in grades 1-12 have access to a District-provided device, we were able to shift into this new environment relatively quickly. Throughout this process the District received feedback from students, families, and staff members, both anecdotally and through the remote learning survey that was first shared with stakeholders on May 4. This feedback is being used to plan for the 2020-2021 school year. We are hopeful that a full in-person return to school is possible, but we also have to consider multiple scenarios that may involve continued remote learning or a hybrid environment.
This school year has forced all of us out of our comfort zones and required us to rethink the traditional education experience. Thank you for all that you are doing to support remote learning for our students. You have been an important partner in this process and we are all fortunate to be a part of the NA school community.
