2020 STEM & Buds Summer Program Volunteer Opportunity:STEM & Buds is a student led 501(c)3 dedicated towards three main goals: Individualized learning & initiative, lasting peer mentorship and creating an inclusive STEM environment for all. These goals are met through after-school chapters, outreach programs (ex. Partnering with Magee’s Woman Hospital), and our summer camps.
The STEM & Buds Summer Camp sessions are week-long & cost free for students entering grades 6-8 for the 2020-2021 school year. This camp is targeted towards students who wish to expand upon their current STEM knowledge, take initiative to create a project, and gain effective communication skills with the end of week science fair. As a volunteer, you will be mentoring students in developing individualized STEM projects through demonstrations, research, and experiments along with teaching the initial exploratory curriculum. Volunteers must be entering grades 10-12 in the fall of 2020.
The camp will hold two separate sessions:
1. Cathedral of Learning (August 3-7)
2. North Allegheny Senior High School (August 10-14)
Both camps will run from 9 A.M. - 3 P.M. and volunteers are expected to be present for the majority, if not all of the program.
***In the case that social distancing recommendations remain active in August, we may move both sessions ONLINE. Volunteers will be notified of the final decision by mid-July.***
IMPORTANT: Volunteers will need to pack a lunch EVERYDAY
