    The North Allegheny Board of School Directors needs a new member to fill a vacancy.

    What is a School Director?

    A School Director is a member of the legislative body of citizens called a School Board who serve as agents of the state legislature, designated by law to administer the school system. School Directors are elected locally by their fellow citizens. The Board consists of nine citizens who live within the District. This is an unpaid position. The selected person for this vacancy will fill the role from October 19, 2022, through December 2023.

    What is the Role and Function of a School Board?

    School Boards have three essential functions: Planning, Setting Policy, and Evaluating the results.

    Applicant Qualifications

    Applicants must meet criteria that includes:

    • 18 years old as of the date of the interim appointment.
    • Having good moral character.
    • Being a resident of the school district.
    • Having no record of conviction for any felony offense or any misdemeanor offense involving dishonesty or other “moral turpitude”.
    • Active-duty military, including reservists serving on active duty, are prohibited from holding a partisan political office.
