A successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in any area of study from an accredited college or university in the U.S. and meet all other eligibility requirements throughout the training process.
What is a Guest Substitute Teacher?
A guest substitute teacher is a day-to-day substitute teacher who has met the eligibility requirements to have an emergency permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education due to the shortage of qualified substitute teachers in the State. An emergency permit allows a substitute to teach in a certain district(s) for one school year. Permits can be reissued at the District’s discretion for subsequent years.
Does a bachelor’s degree from outside the U.S. qualify?
If an individual was educated outside of the U.S., then a notarized copy of an evaluation of transcripts by an approved NACES or AICE member will be required for review and approval through PDE guidelines. The foreign evaluation report must also be submitted with either the original foreign credentials or notarized photocopies of the original documents.
What other eligibility requirements should be met with foreign credentials?
Per the Pennsylvania Department of Education, candidates who are not U.S. citizens must:
- Submit a photocopy of the front and back of your valid permanent resident immigration visa; and
- File a “Declaration of Intent to Become a Citizen of the United States.”
