    Raising Voices                                              Spring 2016

As the region's premier choral organization for young voices, Pittsburgh Youth Chorus (PYC) is pleased to share some recent highlights as well as exciting upcoming events.  To learn even more about PYC, we invite you to visit us online.

Washington DC Tour a Huge  Success!

On March 19th, 58 members of PYC's Talisman and Bel Canto Singers -  along with 16 parents, Mr. Funk, Mr. Schmidt and Ms. Carly - traveled to our nation's capitol for a fun-filled tour.  Musical highlights of the trip included a joint concert with the DC Boy Choir.  Under the direction of Eleanor Stewart, the DC Boy Choir "wowed" PYC choristers with their skillful use of American Sign Language on several of their pieces.

PYC also participated in a choral workshop presented by Dr. Stan Engebretson, head of choral studies at George Mason University and Artistic Director and Conductor of the National Philharmonic.

PYC returned safely to Pittsburgh late on March 21st.

Members of PYC and TRYPO to present Joint Concert

Pittsburgh Youth Chorus and Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras [TRYPO] - two of Pittsburgh's finest music organizations for young people - will present talented, young members of their ensembles in a shared community concert on Sunday, April 17th, 3:00 PM at Coraopolis United Methodist Church located at 1205 Ridge Avenue.

PYC will present its Troubadour choir under the direction of Angela Evans. As the first rung in PYC's three-tiered choral education program, members of this 68-voice ensemble are typically ages 8-11 years of age.

TRYPO will be presenting the Middle C String Quartet, from its Youth Chamber Connection. The Youth Chamber Connection is a program for members of TRYPO, the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Duquesne University's City Music Center, which

provides chamber music education and performance opportunities for Pittsburgh's youth.

This concert is free and open to the public; donations will be collected benefiting scholarships for students in each program.
