For over a decade, the North Allegheny Health & Physical Education (HPE) Department has been conducting fitness assessments for our students. This year we have conducted our traditional FITNESSGRAM® assessments but rather than use The FITNESSGRAM® Website to collect and report the data to you an your child we have created our own tool through the use of Google Drive that will allow us and our students to more efficiently collect and report the information to parents and guardians.
The North Allegheny School District considers the FITNESSGRAM® a premier assessment for three reasons:
1. FITNESSGRAM® places emphasis on aspects important to the student’s health. It measures aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition for all students.
2. FITNESSGRAM® does not compare students to other students; rather, it measures a student in comparison to carefully set health fitness standards, established for each age and gender.
As we have done historically, we will continue to administer assessments during physical education classes throughout the year. The District will provide an individualized student report that will be emailed to your child's school email account for you to review with your child after the spring fitness assessment. Students in 6th through 12th grade should receive their report in May or June after they submit their fitness data. The North Allegheny School District Health & Physical Education Department believes that by providing you and your son or daughter with this health-related fitness information, we can help promote a healthier lifestyle. A healthy student is better prepared to learn and perform in all aspects of life.
Through this project de-identified data will then be used to determine local fitness trends If you would like more information on this aspect of the project, please contact Mr. David Schmidt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have any questions about the FITNESSGRAM® assessment, please contact Mr. Schmidt or your child’s Physical Education Teacher. You may also refer to http://www.FITNESSGRAM®.net for additional information.
