The Second Step curriculum is designed to promote social competence and reduce children's social and emotional problems. Research tells us that children who learn and use these skills are more likely to get along with others and do better in school. The Second Step curriculum is divided into three units: Empathy Training, Impulse Control and Problem Solving, and Anger Management. This program began in September 2004 with our staff members in first through fifth grade teaching lessons from this program. These lessons make for a more comprehensive approach in helping everyone get better at getting along.
