    Study Guide for Personal Fitness Unit – 3rd Grade

                                10.5.3 D. Identify and use principles of exercise to improve movement and fitness activities-FITT.

     

     

    DIRECTIONS: Please review the following information with your child for our

    Health and Physical Education quiz. 

     

    The quiz for 3rd grade will be worth 12 points.

     

    ALL STUDENTS SHOULD UNDERSTAND:

     

    Components of Fitness:

    • Strength is how much force you can exert with your muscles.
    • Body composition is the percentage of muscle, fat and bone in the human body.
    • Flexibility is moving your muscles and joints through a full range of motion
    • Cardiorespiratory Endurance is the ability to move for long periods of time.

     

    FITT Principle:

    • Frequency – how often to exercise (active 7 days a week)
    • Intensity – How hard to exercise
    • Time – How long you exercise (60 minutes)
    • Type – What kind of exercise

     

    • Running, biking and swimming for long periods of time improve your cardiorespiratory endurance.
    • A warm-up prepares the body for a game or workout and lowers the chance of injury.
    • A cool down lowers the body temperature following exercise.
