Announcers - PA

Open to 8th grade students.  Responsible for daily morning announcements.

Battle of the Books

(7th and 8th grade only)



Mr. Prince

Runs (generally) from late November to late February.  Students form teams and read books for Sewickley Public Library’s Battle of the Books.  We meet periodically during activity periods and have one after school cram session on the day of the Battle.  

Book Club

(6th grade only)

Meets during lunch.  First semester is devoted to Mock Newbery.  Second semester, TBA.

Chamber Orchestra

Chamber Orchestra is a by-audition extra curricular orchestra comprised of violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists from all grade levels who must also participate in either orchestra, band, or chorus.  The ensemble performs additional literature after school for one hour each week.  The Chamber Orchestra intends to further enrich the music program at MMS by providing talented/hard working students the opportunity to pursue the in-depth study and performance of diverse orchestral literature.


Chess Club

Students of all levels are welcome to attend.  This club gives students an opportunity to play friendly games of chess against their peers in a low-stress environment during activity periods.


Choral Ensemble

Choral Ensemble is a by-audition group comprised of singers from all grades and music ensembles.  We meet activity periods and occasionally before school.   Although the main focus is on jazz and popular music, this versatile group also performs Renaissance Madrigals and everything in-between.

Flag Crew

Open to all MMS students.  Computer club meets after school either Wednesday or Fridays in the computer lab.  Students will learn computer coding from high school students and parents in computer science fields.

Homework Club

The After School Achievement Program (Homework Club) meets after school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 - 4:15 PM in the Marshall Middle School Library.  This is a voluntary program, and parent permission is required to participate.  Please see Ms. Connor’s website for more information.

Open to all current Latin students in grades 8-12.  Encourages exploration of the language, literature and arts/culture of ancient Rome and the understanding of how those civilizations influence our own society.  Active members are permitted to join NA at the Penn State Latin Convention in May.

Marshall Buddy Program

Open to all students.  Purpose is to build meaningful relationships between students with and without disabilities.

Marshall Players (Drama)

Open to all students.  This club studies all aspects of theater with a focus on acting.  Students will gain skills in design, creative expression, and problem solving as they work individually and and as a team as they work toward a performance.  

Math Counts

Open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  MATHCOUNTS is an opportunity to engage in a fun and challenging math program.  Students are able to practice their math skills to prepare themselves for the end of season MATHCOUNTS competition, competing against neighboring schools in the county and possibly the state.  Students work individually, in groups and in teams during the competition.

Media Arts club

Open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.  Media are tools we use to communicate.  Media Club is for students who enjoy using technology in creative and expressive  ways.  This club is being formed to explore and use various forms of media including photography, videography, audio and print media.  The purpose of this club is to create a multimedia student organization that will report on the great things going on at MMS in a variety of media.  Students will have the opportunity to communicate about school events and learn how to use camcorders and digital cameras to capture the action.

Popcorn and Paperbacks

(7th and 8th grade)

Meets during lunch, activity period, and after school 3x a year. We read a novel and watch the film adaptation, comparing and contrasting the two.

Science Bowl Club

Open to all MMS students. Students will prepare for the national science bowl competition and hone their general science knowledge.

Science Fair Club

Open to all MMS students. Students develop, carry out and present scientific investigations.  Students compete in the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

SPAMM – Student Newspaper

SP@MM is the Student Paper at Marshall Middle School. It is written by students for students.  Various articles relating to the interests and activities throughout MMS are the focus.  It is another way students at Marshall can express their creativity and diversity.  Any student in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade is able to be a member.    

Stage Crew

The Stage Crew at MMS is responsible for helping out with the technical and stage-oriented elements of activities taking place in the auditorium, including assemblies, concerts, performances, etc.  Duties range from light and sound board operation to spotlight to stage hands to general setup and takedown of stage materials.  It is open to students in grades 6-8, and no previous experience is necessary.

Student Council

MMS Student Council is an organization of five elected eighth grade officers and representatives of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who meet on a regular basis to address and meet the needs of the student body, school, and community.  This occurs by doing projects, activities, programs and fundraisers to promote leadership, service, citizenship, school improvement, and fun.

The is an opportunity for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to showcase their talents to their peers.  Students practice after school during January and February to prepare for their final show in early March.  Talents of ALL kinds are welcome!

Technology Student Association (TSA)

This is an international organization that operates at Marshall Middle School as a club for students with an interest in technology activities: computer aided drafting/design, Delta Dart design and gliding, radio controlled transportation, etc. Club sessions are organized to prepare for competition in these areas at local, state and national levels.

Kids for Wish Kids Club

This club is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.  Students fundraise for the Western PA Make-a-Wish Foundation.  Meetings occur twice a month, during activity period, after school or before school.  Students are responsible for advertising, organizing, and carrying out various fundraisers throughout the year.

Society of Women engineers

Open to female MMS students. Meets Tuesdays in the Maker Space from 3:00-4:30 through the end of January it attempts to establish engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women

 Lego Club

The Lego Club is a perfect opportunity for those individuals who want to express their creativity in a fun way. Activities include building competitions, Lego trivia, “My Own Creation” showcases, Lego news, free-time for building, and creating stop-motion videos. We meet in the Maker Space during Thursday’s Activity Periods.

Open to 6th, 7th, & 8th graders who are interested in creating collaborative art beyond their normal art classes. Students will work together to beautify their school, community, and households. Art Club will meet once a week, on Thursdays, during the activity periods.
