Exciting News for Peebles 21st Century Readers
We have been awarded a one year Title I grant by Sylvan Dell Publishing to have full building access to a wonderful collection of e-books! These titles are available on every computer in our building AND are available to your family at home at no cost. No special software is needed, just your internet connection.
We are very excited about this since the books are richly illustrated, have wonderful vocabulary and story lines. Narration is included so your child has a strong model of expressive reading ‘on demand’. Your child can simply enjoy the story and be the ‘page turner’ to enjoy this online book experience.
Each book includes additional pages of extra learning for classroom or families. These end pages offer ideas to take the learning further in content and in family friendly ways. These end pages can be printed on your printer. Book quizzes for each story can be found on each book’s home page. The book quizzes can be done online with automatic scoring, or can be printed out. We recommend saving the Sylvan Dell Publishing page under your favorites so your children can readily find it.
Soon a Book Blog will be available for Peebles families to share their comments about any of the Sylvan Dell books. This online writing experience is another example of 21st Century Learning.
A special ‘grand opening’ of this Sylvan Dell Publishing site will be demonstrated at the Peebles P.P.C. Meeting on October 19th at 9:15. Hope you will join us so you can learn how to use this wonderful resource to support and expand your child’s literacy. Come and see e-books in action!
Happy e-book reading – truly 21st century Literacy!
