Peebles Receives a Special Mention at the April 2006 Board Meeting....

    Dr. Green also took a few moments for the announcement of a special recognition of the North Allegheny School District about which she was just informed late this afternoon.  In a letter from the Allegheny Conference on Economic Community Development, she learned that the District is receiving special honors in the Conference’s Fifth Annual Report Card on Education.  This annual Report bases its findings on the performance of fifth grade students from ten counties on the PSSA Reading and Mathematics Exams.  The objective of the Conference is to foster the economic development of our region and the Conference strongly believes that the quality of public education is critical to that objective.

    In the Report Card, schools are assigned grades based upon the performance of their fifth graders.  All five our NASD’s elementary schools are receiving an “A” in both reading and mathematics on the indicators of this prestigious report.  Two of our schools, Peebles and Hosack Elementary Schools, were singled out for the Honor Roll based upon their “A+” performance.  Only 21 schools total in the 10 regions reviewed are on the Honor Roll.  These awards place NASD at the top of our region in terms of academic achievement.
