MLA Citations & List of Works Cited
(6th Edition of the MLA Manual)

Giving credit where credit is due!

You are committing plagiarism when you use information that you have found in your research with out giving credit. Plagiarism is illegal.

A Works Cited (formerly known as bibliography) page in a report gives credit to the authors or creators who originally researched and published the information.  Do not use their information or pictures as your own.  You are committing plagiarism when you use information that you have found in your research without giving credit.  The Works Cited listing usually follows the last page of your report. You must follow an exact format in the preparation of the Works Cited, using certain rules:

1.  Put the entries in order alphabetically by author’s last name, or, if the author is not given, by the first important word in the title, excluding “a”, “an”, or “the.”

2.  The items should not be numbered 1, 2, 3, etc.

3.  The first line of each entry begins at the left margin, and every other line in the entry is indented 5 spaces.

4.  You should double space between each entry.

5.  Use a period at the end of each entry.

6.  You must follow the exact format for punctuation, underlining, and capitalization.

Below you see an example of a listing of the Works Cited with 7entries:
