One of our tool closetsTech Ed. or technology education uses all sort of things to make and draw an object. In MMS Tech. Ed. is part of our Unified Arts curriculum. In our technology program we work on projects using workshop tools, computer programs, and drawing tools.
MMS Tech Ed. is mandatory in our school at Marshall Middle. Sixth and eighth graders take the Tech Ed. course for twelve weeks, and the seventh graders take Tech Ed. for six weeks. The sixth graders make wooden jeeps and trailers. The sixth graders also learn how to use the basics of the Delta Cad program, basic drawing, and take a typing program on the computer. The seventh graders build clocks, calendars, wooden name tags, and design advertisements for an event. The seventh graders then learn advanced Delta Cad. In eighth grade the projects start to get more complex. The 8th graders build gumball dispensing trolleys, and design a bridge that will be made of 1/8th square inch sticks of balsa wood, but before the building of the bridge the 8th graders design and experiment on the program West Point Bridge design. The bridge is tested by putting weights on the bridge until it breaks. In 8th grade Tech Ed the students will learn about careers in architecture and different types of engineering. The 8th graders will also learn technology problem solving. As you can see, MMS Technology Education is a fun learning experience that will help students in everyday life.
