Dear Parents,

It is time for Camp Kon-O-Kwee.  All of our district fifth grade students will have an opportunity to spend three days and two nights at Camp and become involved in the annual Environmental Education Program.  The program is conducted by teachers from Marshall Elementary School and includes study in areas such as archery, insects and birds, water ecology, crafts and other hands-on environmental studies.
         The purpose of this experience is to provide the fifth grade students with an excellent opportunity to learn about the outdoors first-hand.  This experience is also designed to encourage positive interaction with other students and staff.  This is not a vacation from learning, but instead an opportunity to be engaged in an authentic environmental learning experiences.
          The Camp is located a few miles west of Zelienople.  Our students will spend three days and two nights at Camp under the supervision of the MES teaching staff.  Camp Kon-O-Kwee is equipped for comfortable and safe living, as well as a center for outdoor education.  The heated cabins have showers and indoor toilets.  A centrally located lodge is completely staffed and equipped with a kitchen, dining room and recreational facilities.
          Marshall Elementary fifth grade students will leave on Wednesday, October 15 and return on Friday, October 17 at approximately 1:00 p.m..
           The fee for this camping trip will be $97; which includes six meals, transportation, and insurance.  If you desire additional information, please contact Marshall Elementary at (724) 935-4044.
           Please complete the attached form and return it, along with a check for $97 made payable to North Allegheny School District, to school with your child before October 3.  Attached are the Rules for Proper Camp Behavior.  Please review these you’re your child.  *Confidential financial assistance is available by contacting the building principal at (724) 935-4044.  More details concerning the program will be sent to you closer to the camp date.
