Executive Officers
(time
commitment varies)
President
Preside at all
meetings of the association and the Board, is an ex-officio member
of all committees, performs duties assigned by the Board, attend
joint president and joint PFA meetings. The president is responsible
for the following year's budget and promotes the association.
Vice
President
Schedule
assemblies, act as an aide to the president, perform duties of the
president in his/her absence, and organize winter breakfast and end
of year luncheon.
Treasurer
Receive all
moneys of the association, keep an accurate record of receipt and
expenditures, pay out funds as authorized by the association in a
timely manner, and present a financial statement at each meeting.
Involved in the budgeting process and will have an understanding of
all PFA functions. Knowledge of QuickBooks software is helpful.
Coordinates and leads the finance committee.
Assistant
Treasurer
Assist the
treasurer and learn all aspects of the treasurer’s job.
Secretary
Keep accurate
records of all board meetings and officer meetings, distribute
minutes, and send correspondence as necessary. Maintain the record
of current PFA membership and the email distribution list.
District Committee
Representatives
Elementary
Advisory Committee (2-3 hrs/mo)
Attend monthly
EAC meetings where issues pertaining to elementary education are
discussed and give verbal reports at monthly PFA meetings.
Unified
Boosters Representative (1-2 hrs/mo)
Attend UBO
meetings every other month. The committee consists of
representatives from all schools, sporting events, and the
community. Their purpose is to promote District unity.
School Board
(2-3 hrs/mo)
Attend monthly
meetings of the School Board one Wednesday evening per month. Keep
PFA informed.
Superintendent Parent Liaison Committee (2-3 hrs/mo)
Attend monthly
meetings of the SPLC. This committee provides two-way communication
between the Superintendent and a board made up of representatives
from each elementary building.
Nature Quest
(1-2 hrs/mo)
The PFA supports
the science curriculum by providing funding for greenhouse upkeep
and grade-level projects related to the environment. Attend monthly
meetings and prepare reports for PFA meetings.
Community Support

Giant Eagle
(Chair: 1 hr/mo)
Coordinate
registration program. Publicize the program and check on status of
"points" with Giant Eagle. Coordinate prize redemption with
Principal.
Box Tops for
Education (Chair: 4 hrs/mo Committee: 1 hr/mo)
Collect Box Tops
for Education, tally and forward to General Mills for rewards.
Schedule Pizza Party for the classroom with highest amount
collected.
Campbell's
Labels (Chair: 2-3 hrs/mo)
Collect labels
from school, clip, and forward to Campbell's. Coordinate prize
redemption with Principal.
Ink Cartridge
Recycling (Chair: 1 hr/mo)
Collect used ink
cartridges, cell phones, etc. for recycling. Pack and ship to
companies.
Market Day
(Chair: 4 hrs/mo Committee: 15-90 min/mo)
Coordinate
Market Day fundraiser including working with vendor, organizing
monthly sales, distributing and collecting order forms. Recruit
volunteers for pick up dates.
Target
(Chair: 1 hr/mo)
Coordinate the
Target charge registration program. Publicize the program and check
on award status.
Student Activities

After School
Programs (Chair: 20-25 hrs Committee: 5-10 hrs)
Recruit
teachers/leaders to hold classes. Coordinate time and space
requirements between school and volunteer leaders. Communicate
courses to be offered to students and distribute registration forms.
Collect payments, confirm registrations and participation to
students and volunteer leaders.
Chess Club
(Chair: 15 hrs Committee: 1 hr/wk for 12 weeks)
Coordinate
students, retain a Chess teacher, collect dues, plan end of the year
party.
Family Picnic
(Chair: 10-12 hrs Committee: 6-8 hrs)
Organize the
family picnic held at the end of May at North Park. Book picnic
site, notify sports leagues of date, contract caterer and vendors,
plan activities, distribute flyers, coordinate volunteers, set up
and clean up on picnic day.
Fifth Grade
Picnic (Chair: 15 hrs Committee: 8 hrs)
Assist fifth
grade teachers in planning and running the fifth grade picnic at
North Park. Coordinate volunteers, decorate the picnic grove, provide/serve
morning snacks and lunch. Plan and run field games in the afternoon
and activities after the return to school.
Holiday Shop
(Chair: 10 hrs Committee: 5-6 hrs)
Coordinate the
December holiday shop where students purchase items for family
members and friends. Select vendor and merchandise, coordinate
volunteers, set up and clean up, collect money and keep records.
Shoe Box
Science (Chair: 4 hrs/mo Committee: 1 hr/mo)
Prepare new
shoebox kits for the library and coordinate with librarian for
inclusion in TigerCAT. Purchase supplies for the kits and replenish
supplies and repair kits as needed. Evaluate the usefulness of the
science projects.
TAG -
Traveling Art Gallery (Chair: 13 hrs/yr)
Coordinate and
assign parent volunteers to make fine art presentations to
classrooms. Distribute and collect prints and folders for shipment
or storage.
Tiger Shop
(Chair: 6-8 hrs/mo Committee: 3 hrs/mo)
Coordinate sale
of merchandise and clothing on the first and third Friday of each
month. Select the merchandise, arrange sales and delivery, handle
finances and coordinate staffing of shop on sale dates.
Picture Day
(Chair: 15 hrs Committee: 6-8 hrs)
Coordinate
volunteers and time schedule for both Fall and Spring student
picture days plus make-up picture day. Send notices home regarding
the date and cost of pictures.
Welcome Team
(Chair: 2 hrs/mo Committee: 1 hr/mo)
Help welcome
students and families who are new to McKnight, whether at the
beginning of the school year or mid-year. Assemble ‘Welcome Bags’
for each new student.
Dr. Seuss Day
(Chair: 15 hrs Committee: 5-8 hrs)
Honor Dr. Seuss’
March birthday as the District serves its annual Green Eggs and Ham
lunch.
Publishing Activities

McKnight
Messages (Chair: 6-8 hrs/mo)
Prepare the
weekly newsletter. Send out deadline reminders and follow up on
articles.
Megaphone
(Chair: 2-3 hrs/mo)
Coordinate
collection of articles, prepare monthly calendar and arrange
articles in the form of a monthly newsletter. Copy and distribute to
teachers for Thursday envelopes.
Membership/Student Directory (Chair: 10-12 hrs Committee: 2-10
hrs)
Conduct
membership drive in September, collect dues, put together, publish
and distribute the student directory.
Publishing
Center (Chair: 1-2 hrs/mo Committee: 1 hr/mo)
Bind classroom
projects, booklets and reports with spiral or tape binding as
requested by the Faculty.
Yearbook (see
description for time commitments)
Negotiate and
secure a yearbook publishing contract, price the yearbook, choose a
cover, plan the publication layout. Publicity, process orders,
issue confirmations, and determine appropriate quantity to order.
The time commitment is a few hours per month during the fall and a
heavy time commitment during January and February. It will also
require a few hours in the spring for distribution.

Birthday Book
Club (Chair: 1-2 hrs/mo)
The purpose of
the Birthday Book Club is to invite parents to purchase a book in
their child's name to be donated to the McKnight library. Coordinate
purchase of books with the librarians, and promote the Club.
Book Fair
(see description for time commitments)
Coordinate the
Book Fair with the librarians. Coordinate volunteers to staff the
fair. Set up a schedule (with the librarians) that allows all
classes to browse and buy. Must be available the 2 weeks of the book
fair (about 6 -7 hours/day) during school hours and one evening
buying session.
Finance
Committee (time commitment varies)
Aid the
Treasurer by handling monies received by the PFA. Collect money at
PFA events and deposit, issue checks and various other financial
duties as necessary.
Fundraising
(see description for time commitments)
Plan and carry
out the Fall fundraiser. Select vendor and merchandise, arrange for
a fall kickoff. Distribute brochures, collect order forms and money,
and place order. Distribute merchandise and prizes, coordinate
volunteers. Very time intensive, but essential to our operation.
This committee is time intensive throughout the Fall. Without a
fundraiser, we cannot offer the many programs funded by the PFA. A
small fundraiser may be needed in the spring.
Personal
Shopping Card Program (Chair: 2-3 hrs/mo Committee: 1 hr/mo)
Coordinate
sale/distribution of shopping cards at least once per month.
Additional publicity/deliveries needed during the holidays.
Hospitality
(Chair: 1-2 hrs/mo Committee: 1-2 hrs/yr)
Perform food
planning, set up and clean up for PFA functions including Curriculum
Night in September, monthly PFA meetings, and Art and Curriculum
Show in March. Coordinate volunteers to provide PFA meeting
refreshments.
Room Parents
(see description for time commitments)
Coordinate
volunteers for the Halloween, Winter, and Valentine's Day parties.
Must be available for the hour before each party to organize or
address issues as needed. Coordinate classroom homeroom parents,
and coordinate teachers and students in conjunction with other PFA
events. Approximately 10 hours in the Fall, plus an hour before
each party.
Staff
Appreciation (Chair: 10-15 hrs/yr Committee: 8-10 hrs/yr)
Coordinate
various staff appreciation activities throughout the year including
the Staff Appreciation Luncheon in the spring. Activities throughout
the year are minimal, but the luncheon includes securing a caterer,
sending invitations, decorating, set up and clean up for the
luncheon, and coordinating volunteers to donate desserts.
Summer Bridge
Books (Chair: 5 hrs)
Coordinate the
sale of Summer Bridge books near the end of the
year. Advertise the sale, collect monies, place orders and
distribute books to students.
Volunteer
Coordinator (Chair: 1-2 hrs/ mo Committee: 1 hr/mo)
Help obtain
additional volunteers needed for PFA events by compiling list of
those willing to volunteer on an as needed basis. Maintain
volunteer list and contact volunteers when necessary.
Community Events

Ice Cream
Social (Chair: 10 hrs Committee: 2 hrs)
Plan the event
that welcomes back the students and their families to
McKnight. Contact vendors, coordinate volunteer scoopers and other
helpers, decorate cafeteria.
Bake-Off and
Basket Night (Chair: 10-12 hrs Committee: 3-4 hrs)
Organize
bake-off participants and judges. Acquire donations for prizes for
the winning entries. Coordinate with Room parents for ‘Basket’
portion of the event. Sell tickets, collect money and award the
baskets to the winners. Organize and assemble baskets.
Make-a-Wish
Basketball Game (Chair: 20 hrs Committee: 6-8 hrs)
Plan and
coordinate the parent-faculty basketball game to benefit
Make-a-Wish, usually held on a Friday night in March. Assist with
organization of parent team, publicity, refreshments, door prizes,
team shirts, sponsors, admissions and maintaining contact with
Make-a-Wish.
Multicultural
Night (formerly Diversity Night)
Help run this
fun new event designed to bring together the many different cultures
at McKnight. Have a table display highlighting your heritage,
donate an ethnic food, share music, a performance or craft, and/or
assist with set-up, decoration, publicity or clean-up.
Family Fun
Bingo (Chair: 10-12 hrs Committee: 3-4 hrs)
Assist in the
planning, publicity, and organization of this late-winter evening
event. Shop for refreshments and prizes, help take admissions,
arrange for celebrity “callers,” work the refreshment stand, set up
and clean up. There will be 2 or 3 Bingo Nights per year.
Father/Daughter Dance (Chair: 15-18 hrs Committee: 11-14 hrs)
Help to plan
this fun event – a night out for fathers and daughters. Music,
decorations and refreshments are all part of this dance filled
evening.
Kindergarten
Boo Hoo/Yahoo! (Chair: 6-8 hrs Committee: 4-5 hrs)
Organize a
meet-and-greet for AM and PM Kindergarten parents on first day of
school. Send out invites, decorate and plan food and drink served,
recruit new volunteers.
Mother/Son
Extreme Olympics (Chair: 6-8 hrs Committee: 4-6 hrs)
Plan and
organize a fun event where mother and son teams participate in
silly games and contests. Help plan the games, publicize the event,
and coordinate volunteers. |
