Mrs.Koseski was in attendance to represent the teachers. She gave a demonstration of the Promethean board to show us all of the wonderful things it can do.

The homework club is requesting that the PTO give $100.00 to supply snacks for the students and volunteers for the homework club.

The nurse is requesting that the PTO provide enough apples for the students to taste at the Great Apple Crunch on Tuesday October 20th.  The apples will cost an estimated $150.00

We will try to get apples donated by Kuhn’s (Agnes Merlin) and Soergel's (Leigh Ferron)

A motion was made by Leigh Ferron to pay for the apples if they are not donated for this event.  That motion was seconded by Sue Longo. A vote was taken and passed.  PTO will provide funds needed to purchase the apples.

Possible volunteers for cutting the apples will be Sue Longo, Agnes Merlin, and Jen Kirschler.

Mr. Boronyak wanted to make us aware of Bring a Parent to PE week October 27-30.

Karen Sanguini submitted a letter detailing the costs of the summer reading program and requested that the PTO provide her with $100.00 to reimburse her for monies given to a band that played at the “Good bye Summer Hello Fall” event for them to go out to dinner.  (See attached letter from Mrs. Sanguini.) Total cost of the party was $348.00, $248 for Rita’s Italian Ice and $100 for the band.  Discussion took place, no motion was made and the discussion was tabled until a later date.

PRINCIPAL’s Remarks

Dr. Chmara wanted to voice his appreciation for the staff and student volunteers that make the homework club possible. There are currently 13 faculty persons and 38 high school seniors that volunteer to tutor 52 students from 3rd and 4th grades that are enrolled.   He

also talked about the reading workshops being held on October 1st in the morning and in the evening for parents of Kindergarteners.  This

workshop is intended to empower parents with background knowledge on word building, phonemic awareness, cumulative blending,

dictation, sight words and writing activities.

Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer’s report was read and a motion to approve was made by Leigh Ferron and seconded by Sue Longo.  A vote was taken and the motion to approve was passed.

Committee Reports

Jen Kirschler was asking for a volunteer for the Spirit club to split the responsibilities with her and Donna Borgese agreed to help.

NEW BUSINESS

1.         Last year discussion took place to have the PTO pay $100.00 this year and $25.00 every year after to maintain the prints for TAG.  Sue Longo made a motion for the PTO to provide those funds and have it added to the budget. Mrs. Koseski seconded that motion, a vote was taken and the motion passed.

2.        Homeroom moms questioned if the PTO was going to provide the supplies necessary for each room for party snacks and drinks.  A brief discussion took place and it was agreed that PTO would simply provide the already designated funds for seasonal parties and that each class would get their own supplies to make the snacks and drinks.

3.        Discussion about the safety factor of the kindergarten dismissal and the backup of cars on Ingomar Rd. and Bellcrest Rd.  Any ideas can be emailed to me at agmerlin1122@comcast.net. One idea is for parents not to get out of the car at pick up but for the teacher and aide to bring students to the car and get them in their seats in order to speed up the process.  Also it was noted that the cars in the front lot need to pull all the way up to the stop sign at pick up in order to fit more cars into the pick-up area.

Motion to adjourn was made at approximately 7:05 pm by Dr. Chmara and seconded by Julie Greenberg.  Vote was taken and passed.

Submitted by PTO Secretary Agnes Merlin
