Morning Announcements

November 20, 2009

The Carson Cheerleaders should report to Mrs. Garvin’s room at this time. 

There is also a brief meeting for members of the yearbook staff in Mr. Niven’s room at this time.  Yearbook staff should report to Mr. Niven’s room.

Attention all 8th grade SPAC members – there is a meeting today with Mrs. Jenkins and Mr. Pasquinelli during lunch.  Be sure to come to the office for the SPAC meeting during 8th grade lunch period. 

Any 7th or 8th grade boy who wants to try out for the basketball team should be aware that tryouts will be held starting today and continuing Monday and Tuesday.  Tryouts begin at 3:15 p.m. and will end at 5:15 p.m. – please arrange to be picked-up at that time.

Jazz Band will meet this Tuesday for morning rehearsal at 7am. 

There will be a brief meeting for all Random Actors members on Monday, November 23rd at 8:25 AM in the cafeteria. 

The Counseling Office has a new supply of assignment books if you were one of those who missed out, or if you have lost yours already.  They are on sale for $2.00.

Sign-up sheets for 6th grade co-ed basketball intramurals are in your homeroom.  Any 6th grader who enjoys playing basketball should sign-up and be a part of the fun.  Games will be played after school until as late as 4:15 p.m.  All participants must plan a ride in advance.  There will be an organizational meeting after the Thanksgiving break to provide details on schedules and games.

Attention CMS, This year’s Talent Show is expected to be full of great talent, so we are now looking for talented Emcees.  If you are interested in trying out to Emcee this year’s Talent Show please see Mrs. Garvin in room 128B to get the information.  Try-outs will be after school on December 3rd in the auditorium.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Garvin.

Brown Bag meets today during lunch in the library.  You should have received a pass yesterday morning in homeroom.  We’ll see you later today.

Please listen carefully to the following information concerning today’s activity period:  7th and 8th Grade Orchestra; 7th and 8th Grade Band (Low Brass and Low Woodwinds); Chamber Singers will rehearse on Friday morning at 7:15am.

Any 7th or 8th grade boy who wants to try out for the basketball team should be aware that tryouts will be held after school on Friday, Monday and Tuesday.  Again, boys’ basketball tryouts will be after school starting this Friday through next Tuesday.  Tryouts will end at 5:15 p.m. – please arrange to be picked-up at that time.

Reminder to anyone planning to try out for a winter sport, you must have your physical forms turned in at the athletic office prior to trying out.  Also, students who have not completed the impact concussion testing need to do so.  The last date for impact testing is this evening at 6:00 p.m.  Please see Mr. Roman if you have any questions.

Jazz Band rehearsal for tomorrow is CANCELLED.  Again, Jazz Band will NOT be rehearsing tomorrow morning.

At this time, the boys in 7th and 8th grade planning to try out for the basketball team should report to the office foyer.

Random Actors will meet today after school from 3-4 pm.  Please bring colored pencils or makers with you.  Also please see Ms. Ballina before the meeting on Wednesday if you are still interested in running for President or Treasurer of Random Actors.

Students are invited to attend today’s wrestling match today after school.  The Carson Team will be taking on the Marshall/Ingomar Team for the Joe Frank Tiger Cup.

The NAL results are in, and the qualifying list is posted outside of the GOAL office.  The first round of qualifiers need to turn in their permission slips today.  If you haven’t turned yours in, please see Mrs. Ruffolo right away. 

If you took the second round test and did not qualify for the team, you will receive a certificate in your homeroom.  However, we will wait to deliver those until we see if there are any slots left.  Thank you for your participation!

Due to a District meeting today, the library will be closed today. The library will be open during activity period for book return and browsing only.

Today Duquesne English Festival teams meet during lunch in Room 230 (Ms St.Amant’s) room to discuss The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.  See everyone there.  Also:  Brown Bag meets on Friday this week in the library.

7th and 8th Grade band students auditioning for Allegheny Valley Honors Band are reminded to report to the Band Room at NASH tonight (Tuesday) at 5pm.  Please remember to bring your own instrument or equipment, music, money, and audition form.

The Carson Push-up club is going to try their hand at Pull-ups.  If you are interested in challenging yourself and improving your muscular strength come join the club and be a part of the fun.  We meet Monday-Wednesday-Friday during morning homeroom.  You don’t need to be able to do a pull-up to be a part of the team.  See Mr. Roman or stop down during morning homeroom if you are interested.

All Sopranos participating in Sweet Harmony should be in Mrs. Leckey’s room at this time.

Mrs. Yendell’s students must bring their covered science books with them to class today. 

All drama club members should report to Room 205 after school today.  Also, there are still parts that need to be distributed.  The meeting will last until 4:00 p.m.

Computer Lab 231 is closed today including during homeroom. 

Attention all students:  The library will be closed until 8:20 this morning to all students due to a library aide meeting.  You may only return books from 8:05-8:20.  All library aides are to report to the library as soon as they check in for morning homeroom.

Football tickets for tonight’s WPIAL Play-Off game are on sale at this time in the main office foyer.  Tickets will only be available until 8:30 a.m.

Mr. Roman’s 6th grade physical education classes should also bring their binder to class today.

This is a reminder to all jazz band members that our first Pizza Night Practice will be THIS Monday, November 16th.  Please place your money in an envelope with your order form and return it to Miss Geary by the end of Morning Homeroom on Monday.  Thank you!

Attention: Mr. Saville’s students need to bring their SSR books to class today.  Again, 8th graders who have Mr. Saville for Social Studies should bring their SSR books to class today.

Mr. Roman’s 6th grade physical education classes should also bring their binder to class today. (11/12 and 11/13)

Today’s activity period will be music priority.    These are the groups that will be meeting during activity period today:  7th and 8th Grade Orchestra; 8th Grade Chorus; 6th Grade Chorus; 6th Grade Band; Girls Group will be meeting in the School Counseling office; Sign-ups for Drama Club.

Attention all 7th and 8th grade library aides:  There will be an important meeting for ALL 7th and 8th grade library aides tomorrow morning at 8:05 am in the library. ALL current library aides must attend or see Mrs. Gottron or Mrs. Martin if they are unable to attend.

Football tickets for tomorrow night’s WPIAL Play-Off game between North Allegheny and North Hills will be on sale tomorrow morning here at Carson.  Ticket prices for students will be $4.00 and adult tickets are $6.00.  All tickets at the gate will be $6.00.

Tickets will be sold in the main office foyer from 8:00 – 8:30 a.m.  Again, the game is being played at Pine-Richland stadium.

November 11, 2009

Thursday, November 12th, Lifetouch Studios will return to Carson to do make-up photos and to retake pictures of those students not pleased with their photo.

Students that were absent on October 25th should have received an order form in their homeroom this morning.  If you did not purchase pictures the first time and would like to do so on Thursday please stop in the office for an order form.

Students that want to have their photo retaken should bring their complete photo package on Thursday and when called to the auditorium by the PA you will present the photo packet to the photographer.

Teachers may have your photo taken starting at 7:45 a.m.; students will be called to the auditorium starting at 8:10 a.m.

7th grade boys’ basketball intramurals after school today until 4:15.  Please plan your ride in advance.      

Today’s activity period will be organizational priority.  These are the groups that will be meeting during activity period today:  Student Council will meet in the library; 7th and 8th Grade Band - Brass; 8th Grade Chorus – boys only; 7th Grade Chorus

Tomorrow during activity period the following groups will be meeting:  6th Grade Band, 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra, 8th Grade Full Chorus and 7th Grade Chorus.

Sign-ups for the drama club play will take place during activity period on Thursday.  If you need a script, you can pick it up sometime today in Room 205.  There is no drama club meeting today.

The library is closed during activity period today due to a student council meeting.  However, students may use the computers if available and may come in for book exchange only.  Teachers are asked to send only one student at a time for a period of 10 minutes.

After a hard fought season the winner of the coveted CARSON BOWL and all of the glory and prestige that comes with it is the STEELARS.

The STEELARS defeated the INCINERATORS by a score of 34 to 27, to bring home the victory.  Both these teams left it all out on the field, with a late rally by the incinerators that fell short.  Thank you to all the CFL participants this past season.

This is a reminder for all students that your report card will be held today if you have not returned or paid for any overdue library books.  Please see Mrs. Gottron in the library to take care of any books that are outstanding or if you have any questions.  If your report card is held, please come to the library once you have accounted for any book that is overdue.

8th grade boys’ basketball intramurals after school today until 4:15.  Please plan your ride in advance.    7th grade boys’ basketball tomorrow after school until 4:15. 

Attention all students:  There will be three activity periods this week. 

Today’s activity period will be academic priority.  If you have work to make-up for a teacher, then you should make that your first priority.  However, if you do not have a need to meet with a teacher regarding academic work and are in one of the following music groups, you should attend rehearsal.  These are the groups that will be meeting during activity period today:  8th Grade Chorus - Girls Only; 7th and 8th Grade Band - Woodwinds; 8th Grade Band – Percussion

The library is closed today to all students and staff during periods 1, 2, and 3 due to Hearing Tests.  Please do not send students to renew or borrow books or to take AR tests during this time.

A reminder to Mr. Heckmann’s period 1 & 2 math classes; you are to report to computer lab 120 today to begin class.

Carson Chorale will rehearse tomorrow morning at 7:15 am.  Please listen to the practice tracks online before tomorrow morning’s rehearsal.

Last Thursday evening, the girls’ basketball teams completed their seasons at the NA Tournament with the 7th grade taking 1st place with a win over Ambridge  and the 8th grade taking a 2nd place.  Check for the trophies to be on display.  A follow up announcement will be made later in the week about what to do if there are any girls who still have to turn in their uniform.

This announcement is for 8th grade GOAL students – ALL Smith Island paperwork is due today.  Please bring it to the GOAL office now.  Also, if you still owe a WAVE book, bring it to the GOAL office now too.

Intramural basketball starts this afternoon with the 8th grade boys playing after school from 3-4:15.  7th grade boys’ basketball intramurals will be Monday after school from 3:00-4:15.  Please plan your ride in advance; all students participating must have a ride home at 4:15.  If you missed the organizational meeting, you are still welcome to participate.  Schedules are available in the boys’ gym locker room.  (11.04.2009-11.06.2009)

NA is in the WPIAL playoffs!  Show your black and gold pride!  Be sure to purchase your black and gold OR multicolored Mardi gras beads during lunch or in room 126 today!  3 for one dollar or 1 for fifty cents!

Tyler M. from Deer Lakes presented a great workshop last night on how to present a workshop.  If you were unable to attend and would like more information and a packet, please see Mrs. Lamneck in the Counseling Office.
