PIAA ANNOUNCES START DATES FOR 2010-11
SCHOOL YEAR


The 2010-2011 PIAA Interscholastic Athletic season will begin for all varsity teams on the following dates:
     - Fall Sports - Monday, August 16, 2010
     - Winter Sports - Monday, November 19, 2010
     - Spring Sports - Monday, March 7, 2011
Ice hockey, rowing, cheerleading and indoor track dates will be determined at a later date.  The starting dates for middle school and junior high sports will also be determined at a later date.

TIGERS THIRD IN MSA SPORTS CUP STANDINGS

The Tiger athletic teams have won the MSA Sports Cup in all six years it has been awarded.  After the Fall 2009 season, NA stands in third place but just 20 points behind first place Mt. Lebanon and 10 points behind second place Peters Township.  Points will be awarded for athletic team success in both the winter and spring sports seasons before the final standings are announced.

INDUCTION BANQUET HELD AT THE CHADWICK

The 2009 Hall of Fame Induction Banquet was held on Thursday night, October 15, at The Chadwick in Wexford.  Eight inductees were honored with a special program including the North Allegheny High School Chorus.  Inductees included:
   
  -Ken Bauer (1990)
     -Katie McCulloch Brinkley (1996)
     -Ed Huckestein (1977)
     -Jeff Jozwiak (1988)
     -Dave Rodgers (1973)
     -Robert Treser (1987)
     -Greg Wharton (1984)

In addition, the Joseph Drazenovich Award will presented to Dr Brian Jewell and Dr. Mark Langhans while the Bob Miller Award will be given to Larry Richert.

THANKS TO ALL FOR A GREAT YEAR!

It takes a school community to make a successful year in broadcasting and reporting North Allegheny athletic contests.  I would sincerely like to thank the following individuals for all their help in both the broadcasts and website throughout the course of the 2008-09 school year.  It was an outstanding and successful year in NA athletics, perhaps the best in school history.

TIGER TEAMS ROLL TO SIXTH STRAIGHT MSA SPORTS-U.S. ARMY CUP

The Tiger teams piled up 1000 points in overwhelming second place Mt. Lebanon who scored just 530 points as they won their sixth straight MSA Sports-U.S. Army Sports Cup emblematic of the best sports program in the WPIAL in the Quad A ranks.  Points are earned for the success of each team in the fall, winter and spring sports seasons.  Only sports with 30% participation of WPIAL sports are included.

TIGER SPORTS TEAMS COMPLETE BANNER YEAR!

The thirty-one NA varsity teams completed an outstanding year of competition both in the WPIAL and PIAA.  The teams won three state titles, 10 WPIAL titles, and 15 section crowns.  In addition, 28 teams qualified for post-season play in their respective leagues!  We will continue to recognize the NA teams in our daily 2008-09 Parade of Champions on the website.

ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DRIVE CONTINUES

The North Allegheny Athletic Hall of Fame is currently conducting its annual membership drive.  All athletes who graduated in, or before, 2004 are eligible for consideration.  To nominate an athlete, you must be a member of the NA Hall of Fame Association.  A Membership application is on the website or you can call the athletic office at 724-934-7238 for more information.

Proceeds have been used to improve the Baierl Student/Community Center, enhance the athletic website and many other initiatives for our student/athletes.  Please consider joining this worthwhile association.
