Winter Sports/WINTER WEATHER CONTINUES
TO CAUSE HAVOC WITH ATHLETIC SCHEDULES
With another round of winter weather on the way, the athletic schedule
for Tuesday took another hit with all games postponed or cancelled.
Practice will be available for high school teams according to the
schedule listed above. Rescheduling of missed games will be
announced later.

Volleyball(F)/GIRLS'
JR. HIGH TRYOUTS SCHEDULED
The Spring Girls' Volleyball Season scheduled to begin on Monday, February 8,
for any 7th, 8th and 9th grade girls that would like to try out have
been postponed until Wednesday, February 10.
You must have a current physical on file in the Athletic Office in the
High School and a baseline concussion test on file to participate.

ANNOUNCES START DATES FOR 2010-11 SCHOOL YEAR
The 2010-2011 PIAA Interscholastic Athletic season will begin for all
varsity teams on the following dates:
- Fall Sports - Monday, August 16, 2010
- Winter Sports - Monday, November 19, 2010
- Spring Sports - Monday, March 7, 2011
Ice hockey, rowing, cheerleading and indoor track dates will be
determined at a later date. The starting dates for middle school
and junior high sports will also be determined at a later date.

Office/FIRST COMMONWEALTH TO FUND TEN SCHOLARHIPS
First Commonwealth is pleased to announce the launch of its second
annual scholarship program fro western and central Pennsylvania high
school seniors scheduled to graduate in 2010. The First Commonwealth
"Time to be First" Athletic Scholarship has been established in
conjunction with the WPIAL as a means of recognizing and rewarding the
good work of those well-rounded students. The scholarship program,
co-sponsored by Trib Total Media, recognizes student-athletes
demonstrating success in the classroom, the community and in their
athletic endeavors.

Athletic
Department/NATIONAL MILK MUSTACHE "GOT MILK" SCHOLARSHIPS
The Athletic Office has information regarding scholarships awarded by
the National Milk Mustache "got milk" Campaign in conjunction with USA
Today. These scholarships are awarded based on high academic
achievement, athletic accomplishment, and community service.
Twenty-five student athletes will receive $7.500.00 scholarships, a trip
to Disney World, and a spot in a special milk mustache ad to run in USA
Today and other publications. Deadline for entries is March 5, 2010.
If you would like additional information and/or application materials,
please stop in the Athletic Office at NASH during normal business hours.

MRSA
Infections/DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS
The
Pennsylvania Department of Health has released information on how to
deal with MRSA infections. General recommendations and other
information on MRSA including spread, treatment, and prevention and
control are available on the PADOH fact sheet. The Allegheny County
Health Department has also issued guidelines for the treatment of MRSA.

Athletic
Director/INFECTIOUS DISEASE PREVENTION GUIDELINES
The National Athletic Trainers' Association has released a set of
guidelines of precautions for the prevention of the spread of
communicable and infectious diseases. Due to the nature of competitive
sports at the high school level, there is an elevated risk of infectious
diseases being spread by skin-to-skin contact.

Hall of Fame/NA
HALL OF FAME CONTINUES MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
The North Allegheny Athletic Hall of Fame is currently conducting its
annual membership drive. All athletes who graduated in, or before, 2004
are eligible for consideration. To nominate an athlete, you must be a
member of the Hall of Fame Association. (More)

Soccer(F)/FOUR LADY TIGER PLAYERS SIGN LETTERS OF INTENT
Four members of the NA Varsity
Soccer team signed letters of intent to play soccer at the collegiate
level next year. Goalkeeper Rachel Middleman will play at
Ohio State, defender Margaret Nikituk at Mercyhurst, midfielder
Taylor Gapczynski at Youngstown State and forward Kylie Fuller
at Johns Hopkins University.

Basketball(F)/LADY TIGERS CRUISE OVER MOON, 46-30
The Lady Tigers took control of the game with a 15-2 advantage in the
second quarter and went on to a 46-30 section victory over Moon at the
Senior High gym on Thursday night. Sophomore guard Alexis Aiken
led NA with 12 points as they improved their section record to 7-3, the
overall mark to 14-5. NA will travel to Seneca Valley on Monday
for a 7:30 pm contest as section play enters the final week. (More)
Ice
Hockey/WHEELING PARK HOLDS OFF TIGERS, 4-1
The Tigers traveled to Wheeling on Thursday night and were defeated by
the Patriots, 4-1, in a PIHL contest. Geno Catalano scored three
goals and goalie Bryan Blawut stopped 37 Tiger shots to lead Wheeling
Park to the victory. The loss dropped the NA
record in PIHL play to 4-8-3 on the season. NA will host
Canon-McMillan on Tuesday night at Bladerunners in Warrendale with game
time set for 6:30 pm. More details later.
Bowling(M/F)/TIGER TEAMS SWEEP KARNS CITY, 7-0
Both Tiger teams defeated Karns City by 7-0 scores at the Perry Park
Lanes on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the boys remained
unbeaten as they improved the section leading record to 8-0. The
Lady Tigers improved to 6-2 to retain second place in the North
Division. The Tiger teams will travel to the Pines Plaza Lanes on
Wednesday to meet rival North Hills in 3:30 pm matches. (More)
Swimming and Diving(M/F)/FOX CHAPEL NO MATCH FOR TIGER TEAMS
Both Tiger teams posted easy section victories at Fox Chapel on Thursday
night. The boys captured a 127-52 victory over the Foxes while the
Lady Tigers outswam Fox Chapel by a 130-68 score. Both NA teams
improved their section records to 4-0, their overall records to 7-0 on
the season. NA will host Seneca Valley on Thursday night with the
starting time set for 6:00 pm. More details later.
Basketball(M)/TIGERS CRUSH BUTLER, 92-64, TO TAKE OVER SECOND PLACE
The Tigers took an early lead and never looked back on their way to
a convincing 92-64 section victory at Butler on Tuesday night.
Five Tigers scored in double figures led by junior guard Anton
Constantino and sophomore guard Anthony Dallier with 21 each.
The win improved the NA section record to 7-2 and the overall mark to
14-4. The Tigers will host section leader Central Catholic on
Friday night with game time set for 7:30 pm. (More)
Wrestling/TIGERS TOP WAYNESBURG BUT FALL TO PENN-TRAFFORD IN
QUARTERFINALS
The Tigers knocked off Waynesburg, 42-30, in the first round of the
WPIAL Class AAA Team playoffs on Tuesday night at Penn-Trafford.
In the quarterfinals, however, the host Warriors eliminated NA with a
41-22 victory over the Tigers. The NA record now stands at 14-3
with individual sections still to come. The Tigers will host
Hopewell next Wednesday in the final home match of the season with match
time set for 7:00 pm. (More)
Gymnastics/LADY TIGERS EARN WINS OVER CENTER AND HOPEWELL
The Lady Tigers were victorious over both Center and Hopewell on Monday
night at X-Cel Gymnastics. Sophomore Tori Bianco led NA with a
36.15 all-around score with sophomore Tiara Chadron close behind with a
36.10. The Lady Tigers scored 145.7 points to 133.30 for Hopewell
and 132.8 for Center. NA will travel to Baldwin on Friday for a
6:30 pm meet. (More)
Inline Hockey/TIGERS SUCCUMB TO WEST ALLEGHENY, 4-1
Despite playing on an even basis all game long, the Tigers lost to West
Allegheny, 4-1, at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday afternoon.
The lone Tiger goal came from junior forward Corey Lamagna on assists
from senior forward Dan Leibhart and senior defenseman Michael Gliozzi.
The Tigers will complete regular season play next Saturday when they
travel to Bladerunners in Harmarville to meet first-place Shaler.
