Photo by Al Durick, Portrait Plus Studios FOX CHAPEL ELIMINATES TIGERS, 4-1 In the WPIAL Team Tournament, the Fox Chapel Foxes defeated the Tigers, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville. The doubles team of junior Danny Moosa and sophomore Pat Miller posted the only victory for the Tigers as the NA team season came to an end. In singles play, it was a sweep for Fox Chapel. At #1 singles, junior Lee House lost to Ryan Weisband while senior Dan Carlin was defeated by Carlin Campbell. Junior Julius Erukhimov dropped a two-set decision to Brad Rosenthal at #3 singles. In the other doubles competition, sophomore Perry Evangelista and freshman Payom Dousti extended Drew Rogers and Mike Hahalyak before losing. The loss ended a six-match winning streak by the Tigers. NA finished as the co-champions of Section 2 with a final overall record of 14-6 for the year. Coach John Woffington, who is retiring from teaching this year, finished the season with a career mark of 501-114. MATCH SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * CARLIN LEADS TIGERS OVER PINE-RICHLAND, 5-0 Senior Dan Carlin won a two-set decision in singles play to lead the Tigers to a 5-0 victory over Pine-Richland in the first round of the WPIAL Team Tournament at the Senior High courts on Tuesday afternoon. In both the #1 and #3 singles matches, the Tigers lost the first set but came on to win in three. Junior Lee House was able to come back and defeat Robbie Lawler while junior Julius Erukhimov also prevailed over Rich Maleski. In the first doubles match, it took a tie-breaker before sophomore Perry Evangelista and freshman Payom Dousti were able to put away Joel Thompson and John Wasilewski in the first set. The second set was easier as the Tiger duo won going away, 6-1. At the number two doubles, it was junior Danny Moosa and sophomore Pat Miller teaming up for a two-set victory. With the victory, the NA overall record improved to 14-5 on the season. The win moves the Tigers on to the semifinals at Fox Chapel this afternoon. Match time is set for 3:00. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * WOFFINGTON WINS 500TH AS TIGERS BEAT GATEWAY, 5-0 Tiger coach John Woffington achieved his 500th coaching victory on Thursday afternoon at the Senior High courts when the Tigers blanked Gateway, 5-0. The veteran NA mentor has built a record of 500-113 over 32 seasons as the Tiger head coach. Coach Woffington is retiring from teaching after the school year. At #1 singles, junior Lee House won a three-set victory over Kashitt Ariff, 6-4, 2-6, and 6-0. Sophomore Perry Evangelista and junior Julius Erukhimov picked up straight set wins in the second and third singles matches. The Tiger doubles teams both won two-set victories over the Gators. At #1 doubles, it was freshman Payom Dousti and junior Danny Moosa teaming up to down Dan Fischman and Brennan DiBisilio, 7-5 and 6-1. Sophomores Pat Miller and Adam Johnson won the second doubles match by a count of 6-2 and 6-1. The non-section win improved the NA overall record to 13-5 as the regular season of dual matches has been completed. The Tigers will participate in the WPIAL team tournament that is scheduled to begin next week. We will post the pairings as soon as they are decided by the WPIAL. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS DOWN NORTH HILLS, 4-1, TO TIE FOR SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP Coach John Woffington's Tigers won their fourth consecutive match on Wednesday afternoon at the Senior High courts as they defeated North Hills, 4-1. The Tigers won two of three singles matches and swept the doubles to secure the victory against their archrival. In singles play, sophomore Perry Evangelista defeated Dave Yokitis in two sets while senior Dan Carlin knocked off C.J. Wink, 6-1, 6-1. The doubles team of freshman Payom Dousti and junior Danny Moosa defeated William Porter and Andy Regner in two sets. The number two doubles team of sophomores Pat Miller and Adam Johnson completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. The win improved the NA section record to 9-1 as they finished as co-champions of Section 2 for the second consecutive year. The overall Tiger record improved to 12-5. The Tigers will host Gateway in a non-section match today at the Senior High courts beginning at 3:30 pm as they get ready for the WPIAL Team Playoffs. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * HOUSE AND CARLIN FALL IN CONSOLATION OF SECTION DOUBLES Junior Lee House and senior Dan Carlin were defeated by Zach Sullivan and Dave Yokitis of North Hills, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), in the consolation match of the Section 2 doubles competition on Tuesday afternoon. In the championship, Mark Evans and Ike Backstrom of Butler defeated John Hartzel and Pat Allen of Seneca Valley. The top three teams qualify for the WPIAL Championship to be held on May 12 and 13 at the Senior High courts at North Allegheny. The Tiger team will be back in action this afternoon when they host the North Hills Indians at the Senior High courts. Match time is set for 3:30 pm. WPIAL CLASS AAA SECTION 2
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * SHALER FALLS TO TIGERS, 4-1 The Tigers maintained their position as co-leader in the section with a 4-1 victory over Shaler on Thursday afternoon at the Shaler courts. Sophomore Pat Miller led the way at #1 singles with a two-set victory over Matt Cuermeyer. Junior Julius Erukhimov won at number two singles as he defeated Ben Mastrean, 6-2, 6-2. Both Tiger doubles teams were victorious, winning in two sets. At the number one doubles position, junior Lee House and senior Dan Carlin defeated Mark Bezilla and Craig Williams. In the second doubles match, sophomore Perry Evangelista and freshman Payom Dousti took care of Mark Mitro and John Tiernan, 6-1 and 6-2. The win improved the Tigers' record to 8-1 in section play, 11-5 overall. The Tigers' next match will be at home on Wednesday against the North Hills Indians. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS BEAT SENECA VALLEY, 4-1, TO REMAIN TIED FOR SECTION LEAD The Tigers continued to win despite the loss of their #1 singles player as they defeated the Seneca Valley Raiders, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Seneca. With sophomore Mike Cobetto out after having his appendix removed, the task fell on other team members to step up. All three singles players responded with a win. At #1 singles, freshman Payom Dousti stepped in to defeat Pat Wyman in straight sets, while at the second singles, sophomore Pat Miller downed Steve Rohm, 6-1 and 6-2. Sophomore Adam Johnson completed the singles sweep with a two-set victory over James Myers. In doubles, Seneca got a win at #1 behind the team of Andy Zipf and John Hartzel. The Tigers' number two team of sophomore Perry Evangelista and junior Danny Moosa was victorious over Pete Czerwinski and Pat Allen in two sets. The win improved the Tigers' section record to 7-1 and their overall mark to 10-5 on the season. The Tigers are scheduled to be back in action again tomorrow when they travel to Shaler for a 3:30 pm meet. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIAL TENNIS - 2003 The Tigers will compete in Class AAA again this year, along with 39 other teams. The WPIAL will advance three singles players and three sets of doubles players to the PIAA tournament. The WPIAL team champion will qualify for the PIAA team championship. WPIAL team championships will begin when section play is completed. The section winner and runner-up will compete in the tournament. If two teams tie for first place, only those teams will enter into the tournament and both will receive a plaque. If two teams tie for second place, only the winner of head-to-head competition will advance to the tournament round. Multiple ties will be broken in the following manner: a.
