The North Allegheny Athletic Training department is proud to announce that the UPMC ImPACT concussion baseline tests are now being offered online.  This innovative program known as ImPACT (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a computerized exam that each athlete will take prior to the current athletic season. If the athlete is believed to have suffered a head injury during competition, they re-take the exam to help determine the severity and extent of the injury.  This test is used to measure the cognitive function, including memory and reaction time, of our North Allegheny athletes.  It is NOT a measure of intelligence!  All test results will be stored in a secure database that can be accessed by the NA Athletic Training staff and the UPMC Sports Medicine personnel in the event of a head injury or concussion.

This evaluation has well surpassed the traditional “Sideline” evaluation once used to determine the “return to play status” of student athletes.  The system is utilized throughout professional sports and has been mandated in the NHL. It is fast becoming the “Gold Standard” in recognizing and managing head injuries.  

Any athlete who is interested in playing a North Allegheny sport during the WINTER or SPRING sports season must now take the test prior to the start of their season.  This test is now up and running.  Please print and read the attached Instruction Sheet prior to beginning the test.  Any student who does not complete this test prior to the start of their respective sports season will not be permitted to participate as directed by the NA Athletic Department.  If you have any questions, please contact the North Allegheny Athletic Training Department directly at 724-934-7269.
