File Photo Courtesy of Jim Lorish SHALER ELIMINATES TIGERS, 3-2, IN PLAYOFF SEMIFINALS The Shaler Area Titans edged the Tigers, 3-2, in the second game of the best-of-three semifinal series to eliminate NA from the playoffs. Shaler won the first game, 4-3, in an overtime shootout. Junior Craig Carioto and sophomore Mike Lorish scored the NA goals. Shaler answered with scores by Josh Bauer, Kivin Sines and Matt Shebetich. Tim Fitzgerald was in goal for the Tigers. The Tigers ended their WPIHL season with a regular season mark of 11-4-1, good for second place. NA has been invited to the state championships in Philadelphia, scheduled for April 10th. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SHALER TOPS NA, 4-3, IN OVERTIME SHOOTOUT The Tigers dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Shaler in an overtime shootout in game one of the semifinals of the WPIHL playoffs on Sunday night at the Island Sports Center. Junior Craig Carioto and sophomore Chris Korenoski scored in regulation time with John Quimby tallying a goal in the shootout. In the first period, Carioto's goal at the 3:25 mark gave NA a 1-0 lead. Josh Bauer answered less than a minute later and the teams went to the first intermission tied at 1-1. Early in the second period, Korenoski's goal put the Tigers ahead, 2-1, and the lead held up for the remainder of the period. Josh Huber scored for Shaler halfway through the third period to tie the game at 2-2. Neither team could score in the remainder of regulation time and the game went to a 10-minute overtime. Once again, neither team was able to put home the game winner sending the game into a 5-man shootout. In the shootout, Scott Kramer scored first to give Shaler a 3-2 lead. Quimby answered to tie the score, but Huber got the game winner as Shaler took a 4-3 victory. The win gives Shaler a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Game two will be played on Sunday afternoon with game time set at 3:30 pm. If necessary, game three will be played on Wednesday, March 31, at 8:30 pm. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * SENECA VALLEY FALLS TO TIGERS, 6-1, AS NA FINISHES IN SECOND PLACE The Tigers knocked off the Seneca Valley Raiders, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Island Sports Center in the regular season finale. Senior Dan Fialon had a hat trick to lead the way for NA. Sophomore Chris Gilson, sophomore Chris Korenoski, and sophomore Mike Lorish had the other NA goals. Junior goalie Tim Fitzgerald gave up only one goal in earning the victory. The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead when Gilson scored in the first period. In the second period, Quimby increased the NA lead to 2-0 before Mike Crawford scored for the Raiders. NA broke open a close game with four goals in the final period. Fialon scored all three of his goals with Lorish tallying the fourth as the Tigers earned a 6-1 victory. Seneca outshot NA, 29-24. NA finished in second place with a record of 11-4-1, including one overtime loss. The playoffs will begin next Sunday night with Burrell meeting Seneca Valley and Shaler taking on Moon. The Tigers will play the winner of the Seneca Valley-Burrell contest in a best-of-three semifinal series. That series is scheduled to begin on Sunday, March 21, at the Island Sports Center with game time set for 7:30 pm. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS BLANK BURRELL, 12-0 The Tigers had little trouble with Burrell on Sunday afternoon at the Island Sports Center as they dominated the Bucs, 12-0. NA outshot Burrell, 49-9, to improve their record to 10-4-1. Juniors Craig Carioto and Evan Kirsch had hat tricks to lead NA while sophomore Mike Lorish picked up three assists. Burrell came into the game missing a number of players due to illness. In the first period, junior Brandon O'Connor gave the Tigers a 1-0 advantage with sophomores Chris Korenoski and Lorish picking up assists at the 4:15 mark. Sophomore Chris Gilson scored a little over a minute later as the Tigers took a 2-0 lead to the first intermission. Four different Tigers scored in the second period as NA increased the margin to 6-0. Carioto and Gilson scored less than a minute apart early in the period. O'Connor's goal at the 7:20 mark made it 5-0, and senior Dan Fialon, on an assist from Lorish, completed the second period scoring with just 21 seconds left. The undermanned Bucs ran out of gas in the third period as the Tigers added six more goals. After Carioto picked up an unassisted goal with 7:05 remaining, junior John Quimby push the advantage to 8-0 at the 5:35 mark. Kirsch then went to work, scoring three goals in the last 4:55. Carioto added the fourth as NA went on to the easy 12-0 victory. Junior Evan Vogini earned the shutout as the Tigers won their 10th game of the season. The regular season will end next Sunday afternoon when the Tigers meet neighborhood rival Seneca Valley. Game time is set for 4:30 pm at the Island Sports Center. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * SHORT-HANDED TIGERS FALL TO SENECA VALLEY, 6-2 Playing without two starters for the second straight game, the Tigers were defeated by Seneca Valley, 6-2, at the Island Sports Center on Saturday night. Sophomore Mike Lorish and junior Craig Carioto scored the NA goals. Mike Crawford and Adam Keplinger scored two goals each for the Raiders. Lorish gave NA an early 1-0 lead with a goal at the 6:34 mark of the first period. Crawford answered with his first goal just 1:36 later to tie the game at 1-1. Mark Pinzok gave Seneca Valley a 2-1 lead when he scored with just 56 seconds left. The Raiders took the 2-1 lead to the first intermission. In the second period, Seneca Valley scored twice to take a 4-1 lead. Crawford scored his second goal at the 10:59 mark and Keplinger tallied his first goal with 9:10 remaining as Seneca took a three-goal lead into the final period. Carioto's goal at the 11:12 mark brought the Tigers to within two at 4-2, but Greg Beavers answered with 7:13 left to push the lead back to 5-2. Keplinger added his second goal into the empty net to give Seneca a 6-2 win and first place in the league standings. The Tigers were playing without junior Tyler Seaman and sophomore Chris Gilson, both out with injuries. The loss dropped the Tigers into third place in the tight title race. Allderdice now leads with 23 points, Seneca Valley is second with 22, and the Tigers trail with 20. Next Sunday, the Tigers will take on Burrell at the Island Sports Center with game time scheduled for 2:30 pm. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * North Allegheny is part of the Western Pennsylvania Inline Hockey League, which to date has grown to over 60 teams from 18 area school districts. We have participated in this league as a club sport since 1999. Teams are made up of students in 6th through 12th grade. Tryouts this year were held the second weekend of September. We were able to field 9 teams with a total of 95 players consisting of 3 Middle School teams, 2 Junior Varsity, and 4 Varsity teams. The season started September 19th with four pre-season games and continues through March, with 16 regular season and additional playoff games. All games and practices are played at Island Sports Center on Neville Island. Our practices are Tuesdays or Thursdays and games are played on the weekend. The games are played on an official sized rink, which is 185' x 85' with full dasher boards and is specifically designed for inline hockey. There are three 15-minute running time periods with no off sides or icing and it's played 4 on 4 plus a goalie.
