NORTH ALLEGHENY VARSITY BOWLING

*BOYS: SECTION CHAMPIONS*

TIGERS FINISH TENTH IN WPIBL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Tigers were the 10th place finisher in the WPIBL Championships at North Versailles Bowl on Wednesday afternoon.  Plum captured first place and the title, followed by Penn Hills and Allderdice.  NA was the North Section champion during the regular season.

In the girls' championship on Thursday at the Plaza Lanes in Natrona, Hempfield took first place, edging North Hills by 14 pins.  Oakland Catholic was third.

TIGER TEAMS TAKE TWO FROM QUAKER VALLEY

Both the boys' and girls' teams were victorious over the Quaker Valley Quakers at the Baden Bowl on Wednesday afternoon.  The boys' team defeated QV, 5-2, to improve their record to 8-2 and win the section championship.  The girls' squad won a 7-0 victory to boost their season mark to 4-6, good for fourth place.

BOYS SHUT OUT OLSH, GIRLS LOSE, 5-2

The boys' team shut out the OLSH Chargers, 7-0, while the girls dropped a 5-2 decision to OLSH on Monday afternoon at the Perry Park Lanes.  The match had been postponed by weather conditions earlier in the year.  The victory by the boys' squad improved their record to 7-2 and moved them into first place in the North Section.  The girls fell to 3-6, good for 4th place.

The Tiger teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to the Baden Bowl to take on the Quaker Valley Quakers.  Both teams defeated Quaker Valley earlier in the season at home.  Match time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

TIGERS, AMBRIDGE SPLIT

The boys' team edged Ambridge, 4-3, while the girls' squad dropped a 7-0 shutout to the Bridgers at Perry Park Lanes last Wednesday.  The boys' record improved to 6-2 while the girls' dropped to 3-5.

Senior Brad McCullough led the boys with a season high series of 640 and single games of 225 and 222.  Junior Steve Richey also rolled a pair of 200 plus games, a 215 and a 201, en route to a 600 series total.  Junior Kevin Davis recorded a 212 in game three.

For the Lady Tigers, freshman Kristen McCullough totaled 462 and sophomore Lauren Rzeznik a 451to lead NA.  Senior Paige Gagne rolled the single game high with a 165 with McCullough posting a 164 and Rzeznik a 162.

TIGER TEAMS KNOCK OFF HOPEWELL

Both Tiger teams were victorious at the Center Lanes as they defeated Hopewell on Wednesday afternoon.  It was a big victory for the boys' team as their 4-3 victory moved them into a virtual tie with Hopewell for first place.  NA is now 5-2 with 36 points while Hopewell stands at 6-2 with 36 points.

Junior Matt Sinagra again led the boys' team with a 604 series, including games of 207 and 204.  Junior Steve Richey totaled 589, including a 225, while senior Jared Gagne rolled a season high series with a 583 and a single-game high of 204.  Senior Brad McCullough added a 216 in game three while junior Kevin Davis recorded a 210 in game two.

The Lady Tigers shut out Hopewell, 7-0, to improve their record to 3-4 on the year while Hopewell fell to 1-7.   Leading the way was freshman Kristen McCullough, who rolled a season high of 245, and a team high series of 639.  Sophomore Lauren Rzeznik recorded a 449 series to place second on the NA squad.  Freshman Jody Gustavsen came through in game three with a season high game total of 163, along with a season high series of 433.

The Tiger teams will be in action again on Wednesday when they host Ambridge at the Perry Park Lanes.

TIGER TEAMS DROP TWO TO NORTH HILLS

Both the boys and girls' teams were defeated by North Hills on Wednesday at Perry Park Lanes.  The North Hills boys edged the Tigers, 4-3, while the Lady Tigers dropped a 7-0 decision to North Hills.

Junior Matt Sinagra led the boys' team with a 601 series with junior Kevin Davis posting a 585.  In individual games, senior Brad McCullough rolled a season high 247 in game 3.  Sinagra recorded a 225, Davis a 203, and senior Jared Gagne a 201.

For the Lady Tigers, it was sophomore Lauren Rzeznik who led the way with a team and season high series of 546.  Rzeznik also posted a season and team high game of 200.  Freshman Kristen McCullough recorded a 461 series and freshman Mary Villoria had a season best 455.

The boys' team record dropped to 4-2, good for second place in the North Section, one game behind Hopewell.  For the girls, the record fell to 2-4, and they remained in fourth place.  The Tiger teams will host O.L.S.H. on Wednesday at the Perry Park Lanes.

QUAKER VALLEY FALLS TO TIGER TEAMS

Both the boys' and girls' teams were victorious over Quaker Valley on Wednesday at the Perry Park Lanes.  The boys' squad defeated the Quakers, 5-2, while the Lady Tigers shut out QV, 7-0.  

Junior Kevin Davis led the way for the Tigers with a game high 215 and a series of 586.  Junior Andy Timcheck stepped in to roll a pair of 212s and a 581 series.  Junior Steve Richey posted a 213 in his first game to held NA to the victory.

On the girls' side, freshman Kristen McCullough picked up a game high 152 on her way to a 411 series.  Freshman Josie Gustavson came through with a 151 in game three and a series of 401.  Sophomore  Lauren Rzeznik helped the cause with a 146 in game two as the Lady Tigers picked up their first shutout of the season.

The boys improved their record to 4-1 while the girls now have a mark of 2-3.  The Tiger teams will be at home again next week when they host neighborhood rival North Hills on Wednesday.

TIGERS DROP TWO TO AMBRIDGE

The Tigers boys' team was edged by Ambridge, 4-3, for their first loss of the season on Wednesday.  NA still retains first place in the section by virtue of games won.  NA, Ambridge and Hopewell all have 3-1 records, but the Tigers have won 24 games, Ambridge 18, and Hopewell 15.  

Junior Steve Richey led the Tigers with season highs in games with a 230 and series at 644.  Senior Brad McCullough had a season high series with a score of 620.  Junior Kevin Davis rolled a 217 and 206 while McCullough had a series of 215, 205, and 200.

The Lady Tigers went down to their fourth straight loss as Ambridge blanked NA, 7-0.  Sophomore Lauren Rzeznik led NA with a season high in games, a 184, and series at 461.  Freshman Kristen McCullough rolled a 478 for the three games, a season high for her.  Freshman Josie Gustavson also had a season best with a 145 and 404.

The Tigers will be back in action again on Wednesday when they host Quaker Valley.  The Quakers' boys' team is 1-3 while the girls are 0-4.

TIGER TEAMS BLANK HOPEWELL, 7-0

Both the boys' and girls' bowling teams shut out Hopewell, 7-0, on Wednesday.  In boys' competition, junior Matt Sinagra came through with a 640 series to lead NA with senior Brad McCullough rolling a 617 for the three games.  McCullough recorded a 246 for high single game with Sinagra posting a 237.

For the Lady Tigers, senior Paige Gagne posted a three-game total of 398 to pace NA to the victory.  Freshman Josie Gustavson recorded a 378 to finish second, and freshman Kristen McCullough was third with a total of 367.  Gagne rolled a 165 for the tops in individual game totals.

The boys' record improved to 3-0, good for first place in the North Section of the WPIBL.  The Lady Tigers won their first match as their record went to 1-2.  The two teams will not be back in action until after the winter break.  On Wednesday, January 7, the Tigers will travel to Ambridge for their next section matches.

TIGER BOYS BEAT OLSH, 7-0; GIRLS LOSE, 7-0

The Tigers shut out Our Lady of Sacred Heart, 7-0, on Wednesday to improve to 2-0 in the WPIBL.  Junior Kevin Davis again led the Tigers with a 579 series while junior Matt Sinagra totaled 533.  Davis had the high single game total with a 212 with senior Jared Gagne rolling a 197 and 196 in consecutive games.

The Lady Tigers dropped a 7-0 decision to OLSH, and their overall record fell to 0-2 in league play.  Sophomore Lauren Rzeznik led NA with a 388 series while freshman Kristen McCullough rolled a high game of 142.  

Both teams will be back in action next Wednesday when they hosts the Hopewell Vikings.

TIGER TEAMS SPLIT WITH NORTH HILLS

The Tiger boys' team shut out North Hills, 7-0, while the girls' squad was defeated by the Indians by the same score as the 2003-04 bowling season got underway on Wednesday at North Hills.  Kevin Davis led the boys' team with a 604 series followed by Brad McCullough with a 586.  McCullough had the high individual game with a 234.

For the Lady Tigers, Kristen McCullough tallied a 443 to top the series scoring with Jen Uhler next with a 383.  McCullough bowled a 183 for high individual game honors.

The Tiger teams will be in action again next Wednesday when they travel to Our Lady of Sacred Heart.  Both boys'  teams won their first league matches and enter the contest undefeated.  The Lady Tigers are 0-1 while OLSH is 1-0.

WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA INTERSCHOLASTIC BOWLING LEAGUE

The Tigers will compete again this year in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League with 28 other teams.  NA is in the North Division along with Ambridge, Hopewell, North Hills, Our Lady of Sacred Heart and Quaker Valley.
