THE PUMP HOUSE RUN MISSION

The Pump House Run promotes personal health and fitness at North Allegheny. By helping young people acquire the physical and interpersonal skills they need, we as community members, parents and teachers have the opportunity to influence the health and well-being of our students.

< The Pump House Run is a morning of fun-filled, family-oriented walking and running events.

< Funds raised will be used to create innovative health and fitness programs for North Allegheny students.

OVERVIEW

< Who: North Allegheny School District’s Health and Physical Education Department

< What: The Pump House Run Race

< When: The 3^rd Saturday in April. First events begin at 9:00 a.m. Pre-Registration cut off is usually two weeks prior to the race

< Where: North Allegheny Intermediate School. 350 Cumberland Road.

The Pump House?

Overlooking North Allegheny Intermediate School since 1954, the mythic Pump House has worn many colorful coats of paint. Traditionally, North Allegheny seniors paint the Pump House. Currently, it’s wearing a red, white and blue flag design.

Anyone for a Race!

< Four events: 5K, 1 Mile, Half Mile, and 50-yard Tot-Trot.

< The Runner’s High will provide official times for all events.

< All pre-registered runners will receive a Pump House Run T-shirt.

< Win medals, ribbons, raffle prizes and promotional items donated by our sponsors.

THE PUMP HOUSE COMMUNITY

Started in 2001 by Department Chair David Schmidt to raise public awareness regarding our students’ health and fitness, the Pump House Run has been an outstanding success. Interested students in grades K-12, their families, North Allegheny’s Health and Physical Education faculty, and all the race sponsors help contribute to the continuing success of the Pump House Run Community.

< Each year the race draws over 550 participants and supporters!

< Past proceeds were used to develop a state-of-the-art Fitness Center at the North Allegheny Intermediate School, fitness training equipment for each of the middle schools and North Allegheny Senior High as well as pedometer teaching kits for each elementary school.

< This year’s proceeds will benefit the intermediate school program.

< Since the race’s inception 1,700 registered runners and 20 sponsors have contributed over $13,000 to make a difference in fitness and lifestyle education at North Allegheny.
