I like the detail of this sculpture, whoever made it really made its sculpture look old. There are many wrinkles and otehr details that show this. The wrinkles around his eyes really make the man look old and tired and the Frown on his face makes him seem depressed. These things help make the head look real.

I thought this sculpture was very cool for a few reasons. First I think it has a very complex color scheme not like some thing thwat a thrid grader would do. Also I think this is cool because in addition to the head there is also a large boot smashing the head and the is crazy cool.

Julio Claudian's Portrait stature of a boy is very unique. The boy is holding his cloth and his one hand is very detailed and positioned in a way that makes one think he is about to state a point. The sculpturer paid particular attention to the detail on the boy's upper body; the lower body is all covered by his cloth. The boy is molded in proportion to the size of a young man and his feature represent those of a child. He is very well presented and a wonderful piece of work.

I think these are super spiffy because they are made out of match heads. The colors are really bright and dramatic. That match heads add a lot of texture. Considering the use of match heads the heads have amazing details, and depth. They also have multiple stages of life, as he desrcibes, there is the colorful first stage, the burning, and then the white and grey ashes the remian in the orginal shape. Being able to actaulyl do something with the scuplture, ie burn, is awesoema nd adds a whole nother demention to the art. What I like best about the sculptures is the dramtic color and larger then life size.

http://www.indiana.edu/~leach/2003/summer02/alexcap1.jpg-The reason i chose sculpture was because the man looked very powerful. Although not much attention was drawn to his face because of the lack of small details, a lot of detail is concentrated on the hair. If you look closely you can almost see where individual strands oh his hair would be, where as on his face, no wrinkles, or creases are there. Next two the hair, the neck and forhead have the most amount of texture to it. I feel that the purpose of this sculputre was to show power of the Roman Empire. He's holding his head up high as if he were saying he knows the Roman Empire is the best of his time.

i picked the portrait head of the emperor august, ca 14-37; julio claudian; roman; marble; h its 12 inches (30.5 cm) rogers fund, 1970 (07.286. 115)
the texture of this sculpture is smooth, but has alot of chipped pieces off of it. i think that it is very unique because its so realilistic looking. the way its hair is over its forehead and the intricate details of the individual strains of hair. the way that it doesn't have eyeballs is unique also. its eyes are not detailed to look like a regular person, but yet it still looks like a real figure.

The artist who sculpted this piece made it unique for one because he left out the details in the eyes.It has a smooth texture as well strong detail in the hairand ears. He is lacking detail in his eyes. Nothing in the piece looks very exagerated. I would guess that this work is a political piece, due to the name of the piece, "Emperor Gauis Julius Caeser Germanicus, known as Caligula."

This sculpture has a lot of detail, mostly in the form of his body, his toga and his hand. The only piece with no detail would be his feet, because he doesnt have any. This piece could be unique because it is made from bronze, and its green in color. It like the other piece has a very smooth texture. I think the artist was trying to express a feeling because the boy is pointing is finger and expressing a statement.

-I like these sculptures because they are quite differnt from what you would normally see in a head sculpture. the artist used very heavy indentations to give it a certain style. When observing these heads, they give a somewhat sad or angry message.

I am not sure that this is what you were looking for, however I thought it was different. The sculpture uses matches to make extraordinary heads of all types. There is a lot of deatail and the sculpturer used the matches to make texture. I think the purpose of this sculpture is comical, but also different. This idea was brillant. I can't imagine how much patience and time it would take to do something like this.
I also like http://www.metmuseum.org/TOAH/hd/ropo/ho_12.233.htm.(this is more on your topic) The face looks so real. The lips are done very well, and the dents in the face make the face look lifelike.

This sculpture is from the Antonine time period. The strict facial expression is a good contrast to the softness of the eyes. The hair shows great detail and the nose shows a small bit of deterieration. I chose this sculpture because of the great detail. The artist made it look extremely life like.

i really like this sculpture because it is so life-like. i find realistic art better than abstract because it is harder to make a copy of something than it is to design your own thing. the toga or whatever this guy is wearing is so life-like with all of the ripples and texture. that amazes me and i hope to learn how to do that.

I decided to write on the sculptor Janet Scrimegour Wedderburn. I love her sketchy, rough and thumb marked style. It's realistic without being perfectionsist. It is remenicent of my own style, and way i approach my own art. Though i would strive to be able to sculpt more like her i find that there is little variation in her art. It all looks the same.

The sculpture I choose to talk about is Luke Shepards sculpture of comedian Billy Connelly. Luke Shepherd is a Welsh sculptor, now living on Dartmoor, whose flare and ability to capture the famous is becoming well known. Luke's sculpture has always inclined towards the representational and he see himself primarily as a figurative artist - to capture the essence of another individual and to bring the clay alive is his challenge. Luke makes sculptures that are very detailed and are a good representation of who he is sculpting. There is no distortion or exaggeration in his pieces, but there is a lot of detail to capture the full essence of the individual. Luke enjoys the contemplation of modelling as much as the practicality of casting. He sees modelling as a magical process of observation and investigation. Re-discovering the language needed to transform the clay beyond mere technique or idea is the purpose of Luke's pieces.

The sculptor put two heads in one sculpture that seem to interact in motion. It appears as if it is one person's head, perhaps with two personalities. The amount of detail is very realistic and the expressions on the faces portray some sort of feeling of secrecy or mystery.

I think that the portrait of teh head of Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus is totally awsome. I think that the white stone that its made out of is really cool. His eyes are white and he has no pupals thats cool. He looks angry like hes mad at some, mabie hes a mean emporer. His nose is kinda wierd looking someone might have dropped him no something. His hair kinda looks like a carpet, I have a jewish friend with similar looking hair. He has a nice mustach and berd but is nicely trimmed.

I have chosen 5 portrait heads that I especially like. The one in particular includes a man that almost looks like santa clause. This sculpture also includes a specific hair design that took very long time to do, and is very great in detail. It's interesting and neat to look at. He also has a hat on top of the hair and they took a long time to develop all of the different aspects of this piece.

I like the expressions in this old man's face. All the wrinkles really gives this piece an edge. This man looks like an old, bitter, and wise man. One who likes to just watch the world past him by as he smokes his cigars on the front porch or plays cards every Tuesday. Although, i really dont like the way that the eyes of this man's are not there. They are blank and i think it takes away from it.
