JUNIORS – A CHECKLIST 2009-2010
September/October
- Register for the
October 17 PSAT/NMSQT in the School Counseling Office. The PSAT is the
Preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Only
juniors taking the PSAT qualify for the National Merit Scholarship
competition. The PSAT is only offered once a year. Registration deadline,
October 13th at
NASH School Counseling Office.
- Take the Saturday,
October 17, PSAT/NMSQT at NASH.
- Plan to attend North
Pittsburgh College Fair on October 13th at La Roche College.
December
January/February
- Research
post-secondary institutions.
- Develop your list of
possible colleges.
- Talk to your School
Counselor.
- Study! Grades count!
Your cumulative QPA at the end of 11th grade will be used for
most college applications.
- Set your goals!!
- Take the January 23
SAT Reasoning Test, if registered.
- Register for the March
13 SAT Reasoning Test..
- Register for the April
10 ACT.
March/April
- Register for the May 1
SAT Reasoning Test.
- Register for the June
5 SAT Reasoning Test.
- Register for the May 1
or June 5 SAT Subject Tests, if completing a terminal course i.e. Biology,
American History, Chemistry.
- Plan your senior year
course selection.
- Take the March 6 SAT
Reasoning Test, if registered.
- Take the April 10 ACT,
if registered.
- Register for AP
(Advanced Placement) Exams.
April/May
- Register for the June
12 ACT.
- Plan your summer
college visits.
- Check admission
requirements against your own course selections.
- Take the May 1 SAT
Reasoning Test or SAT Subject Tests, if registered.
- Take the AP Exams –
May 3-7, May 10-14.
June/July/August
- Take the June 5 SAT
Reasoning Test or SAT Subject Tests, if registered.
- Take the June 12 ACT,
if registered.
- Research colleges
online. Download or request applications.
- Schedule appointments
for college interviews.
- Visit colleges during
summer vacation.
- Write a rough draft of
a personal essay for college applications.
- Improve your reading
and vocabulary skills.
