AAA State Swimming Championships
Submitted by:
Mr. Bob Bozzuto
Eleven students comprised
the Boys Swim Team that represented North Allegheny at the PIAA State
competition in March. The team, coached by Mr. Corky Semler, came in
third out of 137 eligible AAA schools across Pennsylvania. In order to
compete at the state level, an individual and/or relay team must first
compete at their district level championship. Our district is known as
WPIAL or the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League. Only
individuals or teams that achieve first or second at the district
championships are eligible to move onto the state level competition. The NA
Boys Swim Team had a terrific season. In addition to finishing Third Place
in the state, this was the fifth straight season that the team went
undefeated in their dual meet schedule. They won their seventeenth
consecutive Section Title. They captured first place honors at the State
College Invitational, IUP Relays, Lititz Invitational and the Westminster
Relays. They went on to win their second consecutive WPIAL by a large

Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth Talent Search 2007
In 1972,
Dr. Julian Stanley at the Johns Hopkins University developed the first
talent search designed to identify, challenge, and reward academically able
young people. Known as the Center for Talented Youth (CTY), the program has
expanded over the years to include academic opportunities, research,
information dissemination, consultation with educational organizations, and
public policy initiatives. Annually, the Johns Hopkins University Center
for Talented Youth Talent Search identifies students with exceptional
mathematical and/or verbal reasoning abilities. Students in grades 7 and 8
who have scored at or above the 97% on Nationally Standardized Aptitude or
Achievement Tests are invited to take the SAT I as an above-grade-level
