AM/PM PREFERENCES and the LOTTERY SYSTEM
If the preferences for all registrations received by March 24, 2016, cannot be accommodated in any given building, there will be a lottery drawing in that building for each session for which there is an overage of requests. The lottery will be conducted before the end of the 2015-2016 school year. The Principal, PFA President or designee, and one pre-kindergarten parent will be present for the lottery.
The lottery will be conducted in this manner: Names of all students requesting the session in question will be randomly drawn to fill that section to the capacity determined by class size guidelines. After that section is filled, names will be drawn to develop a waiting list for that section. Principals will maintain the waiting list and review assignments if changes in enrollment occur prior to the opening of school in August 2016.
Anyone who registers after March 24, 2016, will not be included in the lottery and will be given AM/PM preference based on availability and their placement on the wait list.
The North Allegheny School District utilizes the DIAL-4 as a pre-assessment tool for all students entering kindergarten in the District. The tool will assist parents and staff to make appropriate placement decisions for students. NO STUDENT WILL BE DENIED ACCESS TO KINDERGARTEN DUE TO THESE ASSESSMENT RESULTS. When parents present their documentation at the in-person registration appointment, they will have an opportunity to schedule this 30-minute assessment and receive more information about the DIAL-4.
In late spring 2016, parents will receive letters of AM or PM assignment from Building Principals, confirmation of the scheduled DIAL-4 assessment time, and information about Kindergarten Orientation, which will take place in August 2016.
