NA Hall of Fame Inductees Named
The North Allegheny School District (NASD) announces that the Hall of Fame Committee has named the Induction Class of 2008. The six inductees will be honored at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet in the fall. Members of the Induction Class of 2008 are:
· Ken Bauer – Class of 1990
· Kathy Frederick – Class of 1984
· Mark “Bud” Garrett – Class of 1962
· Jamie Kyriazis – Class of 1990
· Jay Murphy – Class of 1992
· Greg Wharton – Class of 1984
In addition, the Brede Family will be honored as the recipient of the Bob Miller Award for being outstanding supporters of North Allegheny Athletics. The recipient of the Joseph Drazenovich Award, recognizing legendary service to North Allegheny Athletics, will be announced at the Banquet.

NA Physical Education Department Awarded $456K PEP Grant
The North Allegheny School District (NASD) is proud to announce it has been awarded a Carol M. White Physical Education grant by the U.S. Department of Education.
The North Allegheny proposal entitled Quality PE = Quality of Life was one of only 98 grants awarded throughout the nation. The Department of Education will provide $456,000 to support the development of a pre-eminent life-long fitness curriculum to be implemented in our District. The objective of this grant program is to fund the development of a curriculum that will model effective practices to assist North Allegheny students and also schools and communities across the nation who desire to improve their physical education programs.
The goals of the Quality PE = Quality of Life initiative at the North Allegheny School District are to guide students in the process of becoming physically active and healthy throughout their lives. The program seeks to accomplish this through increasing technology, introducing new learning strategies into the program that are lifetime in nature and that emphasize physical fitness, and by creating a sustainable curriculum that will be applicable to school districts around the state and nation.

The North Allegheny School District proudly announces that the NASD Board of School Directors named Ms. Katherine Jenkins to the position of Principal for Carson Middle School (CMS) at their Regular Meeting on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. Ms. Jenkins was appointed at an annual salary of $98,000.
Ms. Jenkins has been employed by North Allegheny as the Assistant Principal of Carson Middle School since December of 2006. Prior to joining the North Allegheny Administrative Staff, she was employed by the Penn-Trafford School District, first as an Assistant Principal in the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and then as Principal of two elementary schools. She also served previously as a Middle School Assistant Principal in Seneca Valley and she taught sixth grade Language Arts in Hudson, Ohio. Ms. Jenkins has her B.A. and M.Ed. from the University of Akron and is currently completing her Superintendent Letter of Eligibility in the Educational Leadership Program at Gannon University. She is certified in English and as a Principal.

NA Student Awarded Scholarship to Attend Global Scholar Seminar
The North Allegheny School District (NASD) is proud to announce that North Allegheny Senior High School (NASH) senior Caroline Torie has been awarded a partial scholarship to attend a two-week intensive educational Global Scholar Seminar through a partnership of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh and Americans for Informed Democracy. The seminar is being held at Washington and Lee University from June 28 – July 12, 2008.
Global Scholar gives students a head start in preparing for college and prepares student leaders for the increasingly interconnected world by building global awareness through challenging coursework, strategic workshops and on-campus experience.
Students were selected based on teacher recommendations, their scholastic achievement, and demonstrated leadership abilities. These students will participate in international videoconferencing with world leaders, businesspeople and scientists; tour the U.S. Capitol; engage in two weeks of challenging, interdisciplinary coursework; and take part in multiple leadership development workshops.

The North Allegheny School District (NASD) announces that the Board of School Directors will hold a combined Work Session/Regular Meeting on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in the Board Room of the Central Administration Offices, 200 Hillvue Lane, McCandless Township, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The public is invited to attend all meetings.
