NA High School Yearbook Receives All State Keystone Award

The North Allegheny School District proudly announces that the North Allegheny Senior High (NASH) Yearbook, Safari, received an All State Award Keystone award at the PA School Press Association’s (PSPA) annual convention held in Harrisburg, PA, on November 18.

The All State Keystone Award is the highest honor PSPA presents to member publications.  It is achieved after the publication is first given a Gold rating in the annual summer evaluations.  All Gold rated publications are sent to an out-of-state judge who selects publications representing the top 10 percent of all publications entered in that division that year.

The Safari, under the direction of Jeanne Giampetro, has received the “Keystone” rating for the past 13 years.  Mrs. Giampetro is an Honors Chemistry teacher at NASH, and is also  the staff advisor of the yearbook.

NA Teacher Recognized on Who’s Who List

The North Allegheny School District (NASD) is proud to announce that Mr. Gilbert Pielin, science teacher at North Allegheny Senior High School (NASH), has been recognized in the Ninth Edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers®, 2005.  This is the third time that Mr. Pielin has been recognized.  Less than 5% of the teachers who are included in an edition are recognized in another year.  Mr. Pielin was nominated in 1996, 2000, and 2005.

Who's Who Among America's Teachers® is the one recognition program in the education field where the ultimate consumers of education - the students - have the opportunity and responsibility to honor the teachers who have most significantly impacted their lives. All of the students listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students®, The National Dean's List® and Who's Who Among American High School Students - Sports Edition® publications honoring our nation's top high school and college students, are given the opportunity to nominate a teacher who has been most influential during their academic career.

Because of the high caliber of students nominating them, the approximately 156,000 teachers featured in the current edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers are among our nation's best and most respected teachers.

For more information, please go to the publisher’s website at www.whoswho-teachers.com or contact Mr. Pielin at NASH (724) 934-7200.

NA Students Display Caring Quilts

The North Allegheny School District (NASD) will be proud to have third graders at Marshall Elementary School display the five ‘caring quilts’ they have recently completed for other students in their school to enjoy.  Quilts will be hung on December 5, 2005 at 1:30 PM.  On December 23, they will be donated to the North Hills Community Outreach as designated gifts for five children in need.

This class project was inspired when the students read The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco, in which a quilt is made from old clothes to remind a family about their lives in Russia.  During the course of the project, students work in teams and have discussions about the importance of giving to others and sharing our talents.

Materials for the quilts are donated by parents.  Students cut the squares, arrange, and tie them.  When the quilts are completed, a label with a kind thought written by each team of students is attached to each.  A number of parent volunteers work with the class throughout the course of the project.

For more information please contact Ms. Mary Hritz at Marshall Elementary School (724) 935-4044.
