Publisher I
With Publisher, you’ll soon be creating distinctive newsletters, brochures, flyers, and Web pages, even if you have no publishing experience. This course will provide you the basic tools and skills for working with Publisher.

Getting Started:

You can make additional changes to your publication at any time by clicking on the options column.
Business Cards:
1. Select Business Cards from the Options column.
2. Select the type of card that you want to enter personal data on.
3. You will see the Office assistant prompt you for your personal information, once you enter this info, you will no longer see this prompt because it is stored in Publisher.
4. Under Business Card Options you will have the options to choose Logo, Orientation, and Copies per Sheet.
5. Under Publication Designs, you will have a chance to change the format of the card.
6. Selecting Color schemes allows you to modify your color scheme of t your card.
7. Font Schemes will allow you to choose different styles and size.
Fill in the fields with your data and click on print to view your business card.
On the top left corner of your screen, you will see New Publication, click on the drop down arrow and select New Publication to start with a Letter Head document.
Letterheads:
1. Select Letter Head from the Options column.
2. Select the type of paper, plain or special. (Special paper can be bought at Office Max etc… has a high gloss finish)
3. Select the style of your document.
4. Letter Options will let you choose if you want to incorporate a logo.
5. Publication Designs gives you different options based on the format you chose.
6. Selecting Color schemes allows you to modify your color scheme of t your Letter Head.
7. Font Schemes will allow you to choose different styles and size.
8. To add text, you must add a text box which is located on the top left of your screen, the icon is a sheet of paper with the letter A in the top left corner. Simply click on the icon, click on your file and draw the box in which you will add text. Press F9 to zoom in and see what you are typing, if you press it again you will see different views and eventually go back to where you started.
When all data is entered, click on file print to see a hard copy.
When you want a story to flow from one column to the next on the same page, use multiple columns within one text frame. All columns will be of equal width. If you want separate stories in adjacent columns on the same page, create a separate text frame for each story. Then, if you need to continue either story on another page, you can connect the text frame to another text frame elsewhere in the publication. The text will flow there automatically.
6. Click in the text box you want as the first text box in the story.
7. On the Connect Boxes toolbar, click Create Text Box Link (chain link).
8. Click in the text box you want as the next in the story.
This text box is now connected to the first box and any text in the overflow area now appears in the next box.
9. To connect more text boxes to the story, repeat steps 3 and 4

If the Snap To Guides (The Snap To feature helps you align objects precisely. When you turn on Snap To, objects you drag will snap to (be pulled adjacent to) nearby guide lines, ruler marks, or other objects) command is turned on, the frame will snap to the nearest layout guide when you release the mouse button.
1. Click the object to select it.
2. Select handles that appear around the object. (black squares)
3. On the Formatting toolbar, click Line/Border Style. (next to the Font Color)
4. Click the border thickness you want.
5. To see more border choices, click More Styles, and then choose the options you want.

5. If you are working with an oval or custom shape, go to step 7.
6. Click the Line Border tab.
7. Choose the options you want.
8. Click OK.
1. Follow steps 1 and 2 from above.
2. If you’re removing a border from a table, highlight the cells you want to remove
the border from.
3. On the Formatting toolbar, click Line/Border Style. (next to the Font Color)
4. Click None.
1. Click on Insert, select Design gallery Object.
2. Choose an object to place on your publication and Click Insert Object.
3. To move the object, slide the mouse until it becomes a cross.
4. To make changes in an object, double click in the appropriate cell.
If you want to create specialized global styles for use in your publications, you can define a separate set of global styles in Publisher. These styles will be included in your new publications.
1. Define new text styles in the publication, On the File menu, click Save As.
2. In the Save in box, click your root drive (jsmith on Naserver1...) In the File name box, type Normal.pub and click Save.
1. Click the object or highlight the text whose formatting you want to copy.
2. On the Standard toolbar, click Format Painter. (Paint brush)
3. The mouse pointer changes to a paintbrush.
4. Click the object or highlight the text you want to apply the formatting to.
The new formatting appears on the object or text it was copied to.
1. Click the object to select it.
2. On the Arrange menu, point to Rotate or Flip.
3. Click Rotate Left or Rotate Right to rotate the object 90 degrees. -OR- Click Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical to flip the object in a horizontal or vertical direction.
Add a Drop Cap
1. Click anywhere in the paragraph to which you want to add a drop cap.
2. On the Format menu, click Drop Cap.
3. In the Available drop caps box, click the one you want.
To design your own drop cap, click the Custom Drop Cap tab, and then choose the options you want.
4. Click OK
When you create a custom drop cap, the custom style is added to the Available drop caps list on the Drop Cap tab. You can use this style to create other drop caps in the current publication.
Remove a Drop Cap
1. Click the paragraph that has the drop cap.
2. On the Format menu, click Change Drop Cap.
3. Click Remove.
Add WordArt
1. On the Objects toolbar, click WordArt Frame Tool. (red and blue A)
2. Position the mouse pointer where you want the WordArt to appear, and then drag the mouse diagonally until the WordArt frame is the size you want.
3. In the text entry box, type your text.
4. To begin a new line of text, press ENTER.
5. Using the toolbar, choose the effects you want for the text.
Publisher updates the text in the WordArt frame whenever you click the Update Display button or finish applying one effect and begin working on another.
6. When you are finished, click outside the WordArt frame to exit.
